What are the responsibilities and job description for the President position at Avi Resort and Casino?

Summary:

Responsible for the direct management, overall development, coordination and management of staff to obtain optimum results in tribal employment and development initiatives.  The President serves at the pleasure of the Avi Casino Enterprise, Inc. Board of Directors and as the Tribal Liaison for the Company. As such, the President is responsible for the communication of all substantial business issues to the Avi Casino Enterprise, Inc. Board of Directors and the Fort Mojave Tribal Council and to communicate and insure compliance with the ACE Board direction to operations management.  

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Review financial statements and management reports and budgets for compliance with ACE Board objectives.
  • Works with and reports to the Avi Casino Enterprise, Inc. Board of Directors to fulfill the employment goals of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe.
  • As Tribal Liaison, coordinates and delivers proposals to the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe and ACE Board to present and gain required approvals on company initiatives. 
  • Review and approve company policies within the parameters established by the Avi Casino Enterprise, Inc. Board of Directors.
  • Supervises and directs Directors and Department Heads in the performance of tribal employment, training and development.
  • Has joint authority with the General Manager to authorize capital expense request for the hotel and casino as approved in the annual budget by the ACE Board of Directors for less than $100,000.
  • Analyzes gaming and hotel records to recommend to the General Manager ways to increase revenues and reduce costs.
  • Responsible for preserving and promoting tribal identity and cultural considerations. 
  • Conducts meetings in support of the General Manager to instruct management staff to maintain open communication and review significant tribal employee’s activities and training in each department.
  • Stays abreast of current gaming laws (State and Federal) to insure compliance in accordance with gaming regulation, rules and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with the Tribal-State Compact and the Nevada Minimum Internal Control Standards (MICS).
  • Maintains effective and positive relationships and activities internally and externally with employees, customers, local, state and government officials.
  • Identifies and recommends potential successors for key resort operations, management and technical positions.
  • Identifies and recommends potential tribal applicants and team members for promotion for all resort positions.
  • Approves all tribal team member selection, promotion, formal counseling and disciplinary action, training programs, experiential and development activities, rehire and termination personnel transactions.
  • Has full authority to hire, terminate, suspend or discipline all tribal personnel and all other personnel with the support of the General Manager.
  • Mentor and provide career guidance to tribal team members. Assign and direct tribal mentors from the leadership development program.
  • Review and approve all tribal leadership develop plans and progress against planned training and development. 
  • Evaluates performance of the General Manager.
  • Represents the hotel and casino in relations with the public, the press, local and State law enforcement, and the State Gaming Commission and Gaming Control Board, Fort Mojave Tribal Government, and Inter-Tribal representatives. Non-Tribal relations can be delegated to the General Manager or his designee.
  • Provide outstanding customer service in a timely manner to both guests and fellow team members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Four year college degree in business administration, finance, marketing, hospitality or related field required.
  • Five years hotel and casino enterprise experience with a minimum of three years in senior management or alternate experience as deemed appropriate to the task by and found acceptable to the Avi Casino Enterprise Board of Directors. 
  • Must be able to qualify for a key employee license from the State of Nevada Gaming Commission and Gaming Control Board.
  • Extensive knowledge of hospitality and gaming operations, including but not limited to slots, tables, bingo, keno, poker, hotel, food and beverage, hospitality, marketing, player development, finance, human resources, repairs and maintenance.
  • Must be able to read, understand, analyze and interpret financial statements in order to more completely assist the General Manager directing the casino and hotel enterprise.
  • Thorough knowledge of gaming regulations of the State of Nevada and the Nevada MICS as they relate to all gaming areas.
  • Strong administrative, organizational and communication skills, sensitivity to Native American culture and the ability to preserve Fort Mojave tribal identity and tribal objectives.
  • Knowledgeable in business law, contract law, and 401-K plan administration and health plan administration.
  • Obtain and maintain all work cards as required by the company.
  • Verify right to work in the United States.

  • Frequently required to stand and sit.
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Reach with hands and arms.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment Conditions

The work environment is characterized as an office setting, where computers and standard office equipment will be supplied and used as a part of the job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The immediate work environment is smoke free; however a smoking environment does exist in the building.
