Intermediate Mechanical Engineer

We are currently seeking a qualified Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our team. The Mechanical Engineer will play a role in a multi-disciplinary project team developing new and innovative solutions for the Royal Canadian Navy and its partners in the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) domain.

Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with requirements through analysis and testing.
- Create, review, and approve CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and BOMs to applicable standards.
- Plan and execute design verification and qualification tests for key performance parameters.
- Plan and execute environmental qualification testing (shock, vibration, pressure, corrosion, and thermal cycling).
- Prepare detailed test reports, analyze results, and recommend design improvements to meet compliance standards.
- Develop technical specifications and acceptance criteria for subcontracted work.
- Adherence to agreed standards (e.g., MIL-STD, ISO), internal engineering processes, and requirements.
- Collaborate with project teams to deliver solutions on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Support manufacturing teams in transitioning designs to production.
- Contribute to cost estimation and ensure adherence to company processes.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical system design; P. Eng or working toward registration.
- Proficiency in component design using various fabrication methods (machining, molding, welding, forming).
- Experience in marine and defense sectors, including environmental qualification testing.
- Strong understanding of materials for marine environments, sealing technologies, and corrosion protection.
- Familiar with defense and industry standards (e.g., MIL-STD, ISO, ASME Y14) and industry best practice for design and qualification.
- Supplier technical management and specification development.
- Experience transitioning products from design to production.
- 3 years’ experience with SolidWorks preferred; familiarity with simulation/FEA
- Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills; ability to prioritize in a deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- The Candidate must be capable of acquiring a Canadian/NATO Secret security clearance and a Canadian Controlled Goods assessment.
- Occasional travel within Canada, the U.S., or overseas may be required.
