Position Highlights
General hours of work: Monday – Friday (Varied days as department needs coverage). Involves required on call rotation for evenings, weekend, and holidays.
SUMMARY : The Radiology technologist performs a variety of radiology tests, procedures, and related duties and operates associated diagnostic equipment. Utilizes scientific principles as well as technical, procedural, and problem-solving aptitudes for day-to-day radiology operations, quality control, quality assurance, procedure/instrument maintenance and corrective action, and radiology related continuing education.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :
- Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Student technologists approved based on recommendation from accredited radiology program director.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS :
- Registered ARRT preferred.
- Student technologists approved based on recommendation from accredited radiology program director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Understand and follow the policies and procedures of the hospital with particular attention to the individual policies and procedures set up within the radiology department.
- Use dosimeter to monitor employee exposure.
- Operate x-ray and computed tomography equipment to make diagnostic radiographs of designated body parts under the supervision of a director of radiology, following radiologist protocols.
- Educate patient on exam preparation to achieve the best diagnostic images.
- Follow policies regarding lead protective devices.
- Position and instruct patient for particular examination.
- Use proper supportive devices and angle boards when needed.
- Use correct exposure factors to produce diagnostic images.
- Make proper exposure from behind protective barrier or adequate distance from patient and equipment.
- Be able to differentiate between diagnostic and repeatable images.
- Follow protocols for administration of contrast.
- General knowledge of computers and PACS/EMR for job specific duties.
