What are the responsibilities and job description for the Career Services Coach position at Avenue Scholars?
Position Summary: After a Scholar graduates from High School, they transition under the professional guidance of their Career Services Coach, during their continued journey towards a meaningful career. Scholars can choose from various pathways based on their alignment with continuing education in pursuit of a certification or Associate’s Degree, or launching their career from the jump. Regardless of their pathway, our Coaches provide ongoing support, sponsorship, and connections to industry aligned employment opportunities within the Scholars’ interest.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Initiates and maintains regular contact with Scholars to develop and manage practical, individualized career plans.
- Helps students develop independent living skills, confidence, and a multitude of transitional skills for long-term career and life success.
- Connects students to community resources when supplemental support is needed to address challenges and barriers.
- Researches assigned industries and develops a detailed understanding of the employment landscape, to ultimately provide education, training, and support to Scholars interested in careers within those industries.
- Cultivates and develops relationships in the area labor market to improve Scholars’ understanding of the workforce and their employment opportunities.
- Collaborates with the Business Outreach Team in support of career exploration and networking opportunities, through activities such as career exploration events, mock interviews, career consultations, and job shadowing.
- Stays current with best practices regarding Avenue Scholars’ key demographics we serve, and how to best support successful entry into the workforce.
- Maintains timely, well-organized records on each Scholar and their progress.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in Education, Human Services, Business, or other related fields is required.
- 3 years’ of experience in a professional environment is required.
- 2 years’ of experience working with youth and/or young adults is required.
- A proven track record to educate, coach, and/or mentor individuals through educational or career barriers is required.
- Experience working with youth or young adults from diverse backgrounds, including those facing life challenges or obstacles, is preferred.
