Role Description
Aventra Defense Systems is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Part-Time Controller / Cost Accountant to lead our government-compliant cost accounting build from the ground up. This hybrid role is based in our Herndon, VA office and is designed for a seasoned GovCon accounting professional who can design and implement the policies, systems, and controls required for DCAA compliance. You will work directly alongside the CFO and our accounting team to build a DCAA-compliant accounting infrastructure in preparation for cost-type prime contracts. This role is ideal for someone who finds genuine satisfaction in building clean systems in ambiguous environments, operates with a builder mentality, and is committed to the precision that government contracting demands. The engagement is structured to scale in hours and scope as Aventra grows.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in DCAA-approved cost accounting concepts and practices
- 5 years of accounting experience with meaningful exposure to government contracting and cost accounting in a FAR/DCAA environment
- Strong analytical and finance skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making
- Experience with compliance and financial auditing processes
- Exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and time management skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; CPA or CMA certification is a plus
- Previous experience in the defense or manufacturing industry is highly desirable
