Position Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Business Development Manager to lead lead-generation efforts, qualify potential opportunities, and establish a robust pipeline of prospective clients—specifically small/medium business owners and buyers. This position emphasizes both outbound and inbound lead development, relationship management, and seamless transitions to our M&A Consultants for deal execution. The ideal candidate possesses strong networking abilities, excels in a boutique environment, and demonstrates a genuine commitment to guiding small/medium businesses through the complexities of mergers and acquisitions.
Responsibilities include ownership of the initial sales funnel: sourcing qualified leads, nurturing prospects, and facilitating effective handoffs to ensure M&A Consultants can concentrate on providing advisory services and closing transactions.
Key Responsibilities
· Formulate and implement strategies for lead generation targeting small/medium business owners interested in sell-side exits, buy-side acquisitions, valuations, or M&A advisory services.
· Conduct proactive outreach to identify and engage potential clients.
· Qualify prospects through preliminary discussions, assessing suitability, needs, business size/revenue, and transaction readiness.
· Maintain and update a CRM database of prospects, recording interactions, follow-ups, and qualification status.
· Participate in industry events, webinars, and local business networks to generate referrals and foster relationships.
· Prepare and present compelling pitch materials that emphasize Avatons' flexible pricing, structured methodology, and expertise with small/medium businesses.
· Transition qualified leads to M&A Consultants, providing comprehensive client background and recommended next steps for seamless handoff.
· Track key performance indicators such as lead volume, qualification rates, conversion metrics, source attribution, and pipeline velocity.
· Develop and nurture ongoing relationships with referral partners (such as accountants, attorneys, bankers, and business brokers).
· Support firm growth initiatives, including partnerships, co-marketing efforts, and content development to position Avatons as a trusted advisor.
Qualifications & Requirements
· Minimum of five years of experience in business development, sales, lead generation, or client acquisition, preferably within professional services, M&A advisory, business brokerage, consulting, or financial services.
· Demonstrated success in generating and qualifying leads within B2B/professional services environments (e.g., securing meetings, consultations, or engagements).
· Strong skills in outbound sales, including cold calling/emailing, LinkedIn prospecting, objection handling, and relationship cultivation.
· Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities; aptitude for building trust with business owners.
· Self-driven, entrepreneurial mindset; thrives in agile, growth-oriented organizations.
· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or a related discipline.
· Knowledge of small/medium-business operations, fundamental M&A concepts, or professional services sales considered an asset.
Preferred Skills
· Established network within small/medium-business communities, Boston/New England, or relevant industries.
· Understanding of key M&A challenges facing small/medium business owners.
· Ability to manage multiple prospects and campaigns concurrently.
