Kiln Operator - 12 Hour Rotating (2-2-3) Schedule
Location: Durham, NC
Pay: $21.00/hour
Shifts: Days - 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM; Nights - 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM

This position is an advanced role requiring technical judgment, precision, and accountability.
Responsibilities for the Kiln Operator:
- Assemble materials and operate equipment safely and efficiently
- Measure and assemble materials, apply chemicals, and transport raw materials
- Work with both solid and liquid raw materials during the activation processes
- Adjust solution chemistries using Excel spreadsheets, monitor chemical inventory, and ensure tank chemistry stays within specification
- Read run plans and input correct recipes into machinery systems
- Operate and perform basic maintenance on analytical equipment
- Change solution filters as required
- Read and follow Standard Operating Sheets (SOS) and troubleshoot process deviations
- Verify solutions, materials, and finished products meet specifications before use or release
- Handle raw materials and finished products carefully to prevent damage
- Operate independently while collaborating with engineers and technicians
- Communicate product, process, or data issues promptly to supervisors or managers
- Run formed bricks through an extruder to form honeycomb catalysts
- Place catalysts on trays, wrap them, and load carts for oven processing
- Load oven carts, monitor temperature and humidity, make process adjustments, and unload upon completion
- Prepare dry catalysts for chemical activation
- Prepare chemical mixes for the activation process
- Cut catalysts to specifications
- Build arrays by cementing catalysts to specification and installing them into modules
Requirements for the Kiln Operator:
- Reliable transportation and strong attendance habits
- Clean drug screen and background check (unfortunately no felony convictions)
- Must have experience with operating an oven or furnace within a manufacturing company
- Strong attention to detail and safety-conscious mindset
- Self-motivated and willing to take responsibility
- Basic math and written communication skills
- Ability to read instructions and accurately record information
- Proven knowledge of general plant safety
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently when required
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
