The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $125,766 - $157,208
Job Summary
This position is responsible for managing all the aspects touching the development, articulation, engagement, and the execution of initiatives related to Alternative Energy Systems for Avangrid, as well as developing and implementing externally funded high-profile projects that will enable a reliable, affordable, and just energy transition. This encompasses managing ongoing pilot projects, thought their development and regulatory approval, to execution, and managing DOE-funded initiatives, developing comprehensive project plans, coordinating with various managers and technical personnel, and ensuring resource availability and allocation. The Special Projects team is also responsible for the delivery and implementation of new innovative technologies from project trials into Business-as-Usual activities. By articulating internally and externally, the team will also develop new business opportunities related to Alternative Energy Systems and other approaches that are proved to be feasible. Finally, the Manager for Special Projects will be responsible for developing and maintaining compliance processes and procedures to ensure all legal and contractual requirements are met related to the managed portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
- Delivery and integration of innovative network equipment and technology with existing network infrastructure to meet customer expectations while delivering improved value to the business and developing the use and application of emerging new technologies which benefit the operation and safe use of electrical networks.
- Monitor and engage in funding opportunities, including federal programs and local/state initiatives and collaborate with Corporate Innovation team to align proposals with mapped funding opportunities.
- Pursue new opportunities on Alternative Energy Systems across Avangrid, by uncovering potential areas, developing feasibility assessments, writing business cases, and proposing projects to regulatory appraisal.
- Develop comprehensive project plans for the portfolio that ensure achievement of all project goals agreed with Federal government, State government, and/or another Sponsors, and coordinate various managers and technical personnel during all project phases, from initial development through implementation.
- Coordinate with all areas involved to ensure engagement and execution of the activities. Schedule committees and meetings and follow up agreements and commitments. Identify and manage projects dependencies and critical paths, ensuring resource availability and allocation.
- Act as the internal SME, supporting both state and federal government affairs officers on the regulatory development of guidelines that will facilitate the roll out of tested concepts in our services areas.
- Track project and portfolio performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term goals. Identify causes and support management to act.
- Manage the implementation and day-to-day operation of compliance procedures to ensure all contractual and legal requirements are met.
- Lead the team responsible for developing the NY UTEN pilots, as well as all internal and external teams working on it.
- Lead the relationship with NY Joint Utilities effort to develop thermal energy systems in the state, articulating relevant topics to be jointly presented to NY PSC.
- Represent Avangrid at industry events, forums, and regulatory discussions related to topics under management.
- Create compelling narratives, storylines, and persuasive presentations that articulate initiatives and support regulatory dockets, internal approvals, and other business opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, business, finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in business development, project management, project development, or related roles within the energy or utilities industry.
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and translate it into actionable strategies.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to various stakeholders effectively.
- Proven leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive strategic initiatives.
- Knowledge of industry regulations, trends, and emerging technologies in the energy and utilities sector.
- Proven capability of delivering against multiple targets.
- Proven ability to lead teams.
- Excellent interpersonal skills – strong team skills; ability to coach and teach others; desire to serve co-workers & customers.
- Master’s degree in business or engineering.
