What are the responsibilities and job description for the NDT Technician position at Avalon Precision Casting Company, LLC?
Responsible for conducting the non-destructive testing procedure on casting samples to ensure that physical properties meet product specifications, under the direct supervision of the Quality Control Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Conduct tests on castings to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) like internal fractures, corrosion, impurities and similar defects in metal using NDT methods of inspection.
•Examine and test the physical properties of materials and components to determine their strength, hardness, toughness or other properties of metal, which could affect their performance and reliability.
•Select, calibrate, or operate equipment used in the non-destructive testing (NDT) of products or materials.
•Sort castings according to types of defects and select the appropriate method and technique for NDT inspection.
•Identify defects in solid materials using magnetic particle testing by lining up magnetic particles along the cracks and defects.
•Conduct liquid penetrant tests to locate surface cracks by coating objects with fluorescent dyes like zyglo or magnaflux, cleaning excess penetrant, and applying developer.
•Produce radiographic images to detect flaws in objects while leaving objects intact.
•Visually examine materials, structures, or components using tools and equipment.
•Use testing processes that do not damage the structure of the object being tested.
•Interpret or evaluate test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, or procedures.
•Document and prepare reports on non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, processes, or results.
•Follow and maintain established quality standard for aftercast department.
•Responsible for departmental safety and housekeeping.
•Perform related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements/Preferences:
•Training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, or a 2 years associate's degree in NDT Technology. NDT Level – I Certified by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing is preferred.
•Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required for this occupation, preferably in the casting industry.
•Some training preferred for on-the-job experience and informal training.
