Avalon Health Care – E. Roy Stone, Jr. Veterans Pavilion is seeking a dependable, organized, and proactive Staffing Coordinator / Scheduler to join our long-term care team.

Effective July 1, the E. Roy Stone, Jr. Veterans Pavilion, located on the CM Tucker campus, transitioned from the South Carolina Department of Mental Health to the South Carolina Department of Veterans Affairs. Avalon Health Care, a privately operated company experienced in meeting the long-term care needs of Veterans, operates the Veterans Home for the South Carolina Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Staffing Coordinator / Scheduler plays a critical role in maintaining appropriate staffing coverage for our 24-hour healthcare facility. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who can manage frequent schedule changes, respond quickly to staffing challenges, and remain organized and solution-focused in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain accurate nursing staff schedules.
• Ensure appropriate staffing coverage across all shifts and units.
• Monitor call-outs, vacancies, PTO requests, availability, and schedule changes.
• Work proactively to secure coverage for open shifts.
• Coordinate scheduling for new hires, trainees, and assigned trainers.
• Maintain accurate staffing records and promptly communicate schedule updates.
• Monitor staffing levels and assist with controlling unnecessary overtime.
• Identify staffing shortages and communicate concerns to management promptly.
• Work closely with Human Resources and Nursing Administration regarding staffing needs, new hires, attendance, availability, and scheduling concerns.
• Ensure employees are scheduled according to their position, shift, availability, qualifications, and facility needs.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling employee and facility information.
  
  

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous staffing, scheduling, or healthcare experience preferred.
• Experience in a skilled nursing, long-term care, or 24-hour healthcare environment strongly preferred.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively manage call-outs, staffing shortages, and last-minute schedule changes.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Dependable, professional, detail-oriented, and accountable.
• Comfortable communicating expectations and addressing scheduling concerns with staff.
• Basic computer proficiency required; experience with scheduling and timekeeping systems preferred.
• Experience with Paycor is a plus.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Human Resources, Nursing Administration, supervisors, and direct-care staff.
