Overview
The Medication Technician plays a vital role in providing high-quality care to residents in assisted living, nursing homes, and other healthcare settings. This position is responsible for administering medications, monitoring patient health, and ensuring compliance with medical protocols. The ideal candidate will possess a compassionate nature and a strong understanding of patient care practices, particularly for individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease.
Duties
- Administer prescribed medications to residents while adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
- Monitor and document patients' vital signs and overall health status.
- Assist with personal care tasks including bathing, dressing, and mobility support.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop individualized care plans for residents.
- Provide support in managing chronic conditions and assist with tube feeding as needed.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of medication storage areas.
- Engage residents in meaningful activities that promote their well-being and quality of life.
Skills
- Experience in assisted living, nursing homes, or hospital settings is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology is essential.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Epic or Cerner is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of medication administration procedures and safety protocols.
- Ability to provide compassionate care to individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other developmental disabilities.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Experience in caregiving or home care environments is beneficial.
