Job Summary

Autotec is seeking an AMR Applications & Estimating Engineer to serve as the primary technical estimator and proposal-support resource for AMR opportunities.

This role is responsible for developing complete and accurate project estimates, defining scope, assumptions, exclusions, and risks, coordinating pricing and technical inputs from AMR partners and suppliers, and creating the technical content required for customer proposals.

The position works closely with Account Managers, customers, suppliers, and AMR partners to make sure each opportunity is clearly understood and properly quoted. Site visits and technical discussions may be required when additional information is needed to understand the application and develop an accurate estimate.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed technical estimates for AMR projects, including equipment, integration, labor, supplier costs, and other required project elements
• Prepare and support customer quotes and proposals with clear scope, assumptions, exclusions, and pricing support
• Review customer requirements, layouts, specifications, and operational needs to determine quoting requirements
• Coordinate with AMR partners and suppliers to obtain pricing, technical details, lead times, and scope inputs
• Identify missing information, technical risks, scope gaps, and open items before quote release
• Participate in technical discovery meetings as needed to gather information required for estimating
• Conduct occasional customer-site visits to understand material flow, site conditions, equipment interfaces, and application requirements
• Review and mark up layouts and technical drawings as needed to support the quote
• Manage estimate and proposal revisions as customer requirements or scope change
• Maintain estimating tools, standard pricing, quote templates, and reusable proposal content
• Support Account Managers with technical questions and proposal clarification during the sales process
• Complete a clear technical and commercial handoff to project management after award

Qualifications

• Experience developing technical estimates, quotes, scopes, or customer proposals in industrial automation, material handling, AMR/AGV systems, or a related technical environment
• Strong understanding of industrial automation systems and the ability to break a technical solution into equipment, labor, integration, and supplier cost components
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred; equivalent relevant experience in industrial automation, applications engineering, technical estimating, or proposal development will be considered
• Direct AMR or AGV experience preferred, but not required
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, layouts, specifications, and customer requirements
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with an emphasis on quote accuracy and scope clarity
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with CAD, estimating, quoting, or CRM systems preferred
• Willing and able to travel approximately 10–20%

Work Arrangement

This position may be based at Autotec’s Toledo location or its satellite office in Columbus. The role offers a flexible work arrangement, with regular office collaboration and remote work as appropriate.

Travel is expected to be limited to approximately 10–20% and will primarily consist of customer-site visits needed to understand the application, site conditions, and requirements necessary to develop an accurate quote.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
