JOB TITLE: Behavioral Health Billing/ Credentialing Specialist

LOCATION: Remote (Must be located in California)
EFFECTIVE DATE: November 2025
SUMMARY:
Autonomous Behavior Solutions is seeking a highly motivated and well-organized Behavioral Health Credentialing/Billing Specialist. This position plays a crucial role in the financial and operational efficiency of our behavioral health programs. The ideal candidate will bring experience in billing and credentialing practices and procedures and demonstrate a profound understanding of billing processes within the behavioral health context specifically, applied behavior analysis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee all aspects of ABA billing operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of claims submission and processing.
- Execute comprehensive credentialing processes, including initial applications, re-credentialing, and updates, maintaining complete and organized provider files.
- Review and maintain provider rosters and payer directories, verifying accuracy and submitting updates to insurance portals as needed.
- Confirm client eligibility and insurance coverage prior to services, ensuring accurate benefit verification and authorization processes.
- Audit and validate scheduled appointments and session data for billing accuracy and compliance prior to claims submission.
- Submit and manage claims through billing software (e.g., Central Reach), ensuring adherence to payer-specific requirements and deadlines.
- Monitor, investigate, and resolve outstanding or denied claims within standard billing cycles, minimizing payment delays.
- Verify insurance remittances to ensure payments align with contracted rates and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Proactively request and track authorizations for services, ensuring continuous billing eligibility.
- Support enrollment efforts with new payers and plans as directed by management to broaden service accessibility.
- Stay informed of updates to billing software, payer requirements, and contract changes to ensure accurate billing practices.
- Collaborate regularly with clinical staff, case managers, and administrative teams to ensure seamless coordination and resolution of billing-related matters.
- Educate and support clients and families in understanding ABA billing procedures, insurance coverage, and payment responsibilities.
- Address and de-escalate billing concerns with professionalism and transparency, escalating high-risk or complex issues to appropriate leadership when needed.
- Ensure full compliance with HIPAA, privacy regulations, and ethical billing standards in all aspects of work.
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment by supporting colleagues and maintaining open and respectful communication across departments.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Additional Functions:
- Adheres to the mission, vision, and values of Autonomous Behavior Solutions
- Respond within 24 hours on weekdays and within 48 hours on weekends to all work communication. (Including email, text, g-chat)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of billing experience, preferably within an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or behavioral health setting.
- Strong understanding of insurance billing guidelines, authorization processes, and payer regulations specific to ABA services.
- Proficiency in billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems (e.g., CentralReach, Kareo, or similar platforms).
- Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with staff, clients, and insurance representatives.
- Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills with a proactive and solution-focused approach.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA and applicable privacy and confidentiality regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENIVRONMENT:
- Occasional (1–3 hours per day): Sitting, standing, walking, simple and power grasping, pushing/pulling, reaching (above shoulder, waist, below waist), bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, and driving a personal vehicle.
- Rare (0–1 hour per day): Keyboarding, fine motor manipulation, stair climbing, and lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.
