Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week
Pay: $52,000 – $120,000 per year, based on experience, certifications, and ability to work independently

Automatic Temperature Controls, Inc. is seeking a skilled and motivated BAS Controls Technician / DDC Technician to join our growing team. This position supports commercial, municipal, institutional, school, and government facilities throughout Rhode Island and nearby areas.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), Direct Digital Controls (DDC), HVAC controls, Niagara / Tridium systems, BACnet, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field service work. We are looking for someone who can work independently in the field, communicate professionally with customers and project teams, and help ensure control systems operate as designed.
Responsibilities
- Commission, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial HVAC control systems
- Perform point-to-point checkout, start-up, and functional testing of DDC/BAS systems
- Work with Niagara / Tridium, BACnet, and other building automation platforms
- Interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, mechanical plans, and project specifications
- Troubleshoot controls, HVAC equipment, electrical wiring, communication, and networking issues
- Integrate factory-mounted HVAC equipment controls with building automation systems
- Use laptops, hand tools, meters, and testing equipment for field commissioning and service
- Coordinate with project managers, service technicians, electricians, mechanical contractors, and IT departments
- Assist with remote web access, network connections, and BAS communication setup
- Document work performed, system issues, checkout results, and service recommendations
- Provide professional customer service while working in occupied commercial and institutional buildings
Qualifications
- Experience with BAS, DDC, HVAC controls, building automation, or related systems
- Working knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment and control sequences
- Experience with Niagara / Tridium is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with BACnet, IP networking, control wiring, and communication troubleshooting
- Ability to read and understand control drawings, wiring diagrams, and mechanical plans
- Strong computer skills, including laptop-based programming, setup, and diagnostics
- Ability to identify whether an issue is related to HVAC equipment, controls, electrical wiring, communication, or IT/networking
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to work independently and manage daily field responsibilities
- Strong communication skills and professional appearance on customer sites
Preferred Experience
- Niagara N4 or Tridium certification
- Experience with KMC, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, Schneider, Distech, Alerton, or similar control systems
- Electrical, HVAC service, automation, or low-voltage background
- Experience working in schools, municipal buildings, hospitals, commercial buildings, or government facilities
- Experience with BAS graphics, programming, system integration, and commissioning documentation
