We are seeking a Saw Operator / Fabrication Support Technician to join our production team. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in accuracy, enjoys hands-on work, and wants to grow within a high-performing manufacturing environment.
Position: Saw Operator / Fabrication Support
What You’ll Do
As a Saw Operator at AMS, you will be responsible for preparing steel and material components that support our welding and fabrication teams. Your work directly impacts the quality, accuracy, and efficiency of our equipment builds.
Primary Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain cold saws, band saws, and chop saws to cut steel and structural components to specification.
- Read and interpret cut lists, blueprints, engineering drawings, and fabrication packets.
- Accurately measure, mark, prep, and stage material for fabrication using:
- Tape measures
- Calipers
- Squares
- Other precision measuring tools
- Perform material handling, including organizing, labeling, bundling, and stocking steel.
- Operate fabrication equipment as needed, including drill presses, grinders, deburring tools, and basic fabrication tools.
- Assist welders/fabricators by ensuring proper parts staging and timely delivery of cut materials.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas and follow all AMS safety policies.
- Communicate effectively with team members to support production schedules and meet project deadlines.
What We’re Looking For
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of experience operating industrial saws or working in a fabrication/manufacturing environment (preferred but not required for strong candidates).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and cut sheets.
- Strong math and measuring skills with a high attention to detail.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Experience with material prep, metal cutting, or fabrication support is a major plus.
- Team-oriented, reliable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-Have Skills
(Not required, but definitely helpful)
- Forklift operation
- Basic MIG welding or tack welding
- Experience with deburring or part finishing
- Familiarity with structural steel and tubing
Job Type & Schedule
- Full-Time – 1st Shift
- Monday–Friday: 5:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Occasional half-day Saturdays depending on workload
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $19–$24 per hour based on experience and skill level (competitive for Michigan saw operators).
