Mechanic
Purpose:
This position is responsible for performing diagnosis, repair, replacement, and maintenance tasks as well as installation work in the Accessory Department.
Essential Duties & Tasks:
- Able to train other associates on installs and/or repairs.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams.
- Ability to understand diagnostics and use appropriate diagnostic equipment.
- Assess availability of units, parts, and supplies.
- Assist installers.
- Complete production and other miscellaneous reports.
- Coordinate defective parts with Parts Department.
- Drive and park car in designated working areas, may drive cars up car ramps for preparation of accessory installation, inspection, or repairs.
- Drive and park car in designated working areas, may drive cars up car ramps for preparation of accessory placement, or application of decals or through roof rack station or over mechanical pit or into lift bay.
- Ensure accessories are installed on designated units.
- Follow all safety guidelines.
- Attend safety meetings.
- Inspect finished products processed, incoming materials, parts and assemblies, etc. for conformance to company, quality and customer standards.
- Knowledge of inventories on PIO and Mechanical Repair warranty.
- Lay out and assemble accessory parts.
- Log processed work into computer program or tacking system (VIPS) as required.
- Meet or exceed established production and quality standards.
- Perform jobs in a safe manner.
- Read instructions to ensure that all accessories are installed according to customer specifications and working properly.
- Knowledge of accessory installations.
- Light and heavy vehicle work on vehicles damaged in production or customer request.
- Responsible for the installation of various accessories and/or repairs using a variety of air, power, and hand tools.
- Train other associates on installations.
- Use various tools to do mechanical repairs, diagnostics, and/or installations on various factory installs.
- Visually verifies that vehicle is damage free.
- Able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Daily clean up.
- Keep tools maintained and secure.
- May remove wrap guard from vehicle exterior.
- Notify supervisor of any workplace hazards or unsafe conditions.
- Participate in facility safety efforts by attending monthly safety meetings, report accidents and injuries on appropriate forms, and communicates the procedure to all appropriate customers/vendors and AWC personnel.
- Read and understand VIN numbers, repair orders, purchase orders, purge sheets, and other documents to ensure proper baying of the vehicles into load lines, after the accessory installation is complete.
- Understand policies, including but not limited to company safety policies.
- Upkeep and maintenance of work area.
- Work with limited supervision.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Drive and park vehicles in designated working areas
- Check fluid levels, inspect vehicles for damage (interior & exterior)
- Check (mechanical, electrical, and vacuum) vehicle components (lights, brakes, air conditioning, etc.) for proper operation
- Work with limited supervision
- Understand policies, including but not limited to company safety policies
- Notify supervisor of any workplace hazards or unsafe conditions
- Upkeep and maintenance of car wash area
- Keep tools maintained and secure
- Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions:
- Work both inside and outside.

Minimum Requirements:
- 12th grade reading and writing skills
- Basic computer skills
- Follow directions, both written and verbal.
- 2 to 4 years' experience on the job or college degree in automotive repair.
- Strong attention to detail
- Mechanical aptitude
- Valid driver's license: good driving record, ability to drive manual transmission.
- Able to drive both manual and automatic automobiles.
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to pass driver's safety test at 80% or better
- Ability to adhere to strict quality and production standards without variance
- Ability to interact with others effectively; work as a team; good interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate diplomatically
- Good visual ability
- Ability to read and understand MSDS
- Understand Company and Customer requirements
- Positively represent AWC.
