DSP (Direct Support Professional):
A DSP works directly with adults who have Developmental and/or Intellectual Disabilities in a group home setting. These persons have varying mobility and support needs. Apply online at: https://www.awearc.org/careers
$1000 Bonus!!! Commit to working every weekend and receive a $1000 bonus after 90 days of employment! Bonus is contingent upon meeting and maintaining all pre-hire contingencies, no disciplinary actions, and no call outs.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED; valid driver’s license or state issued ID; Background Checks and Drug Screens are required; must be able to express thoughts in writing; must be able to accept responsibility with minimal supervision; must be able to understand and implement written policies and verbal instructions; experience with disabled adults preferred; must be able to certify in and maintain certification in: MAC, CPR/First Aid, and CPI. Shifts vary based on agency need: 1st Shift: 7am-3pm, 2nd Shift: 3pm-11pm, and 3rd Shift: 11pm-7am. Must plan to work holidays as assigned and attend some meetings outside of assigned shift.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical requirements are subject to review and are to be considered essential functions of the job.
General Physical Demands:
o Standing or walking for extended periods
o Stooping, kneeling, bending, and crouching as needed
o Reaching with hand and arms
o Use of fine motor skills for tasks such as grooming
o Mobility to assist individuals with ambulation and transfers
o Ability to lift up to 35lbs
o Ability to exert up to 35lbs of force
o Must have the stamina to manage the physical demands throughout the full shift.
Transferring: Must be able move, reposition, or transfer individuals. This may include the use of mechanical lifts and transfer aids.
Pushing and Pulling: Ability to push and pull wheelchairs, shower chair, and other mobility devices on flat and inclined surfaces.
Positions Needed (1st shift: 7am-3pm, 2nd shift: 3pm-11pm)
All 1st shift positions require applicant to be insurable.
All Full Time employees will work 2 weekends each month; Part Time will work 1 weekend a month. Pay for weekend shifts (Saturday & Sunday) ONLY will be $15.00/hr
1. Provide Hands-On Personal Care:
· Assisting individuals with all activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, while promoting dignity and self-care skills.
· Assisting individuals with meal selection and preparation
2. Assist with Mobility and Transfers: Physically supporting and assisting individuals with a wide range of mobility needs, including:
· Safe transfers (e.g., from bed to wheelchair)
· Ambulation
· Proper positioning
· Use of required adaptive equipment.
3. Ensure Health and Safety:
· Monitoring the physical and mental well-being of residents,
· Administering medications according to prescribed schedules (with MAC Certification)
· Responding to medical emergencies or behavioral crises effectively.
· Timely reporting changes in health status to the nurse
4. Implement Person-Center Support Plans:
· Adhering to and implementing person-centered plans and behavioral support plans
· Utilize teaching strategies designed to help residents achieve personal goals and independence.
5. Facilitate Community Engagement: Planning, organizing, and accompanying residents on community outings, recreational activities, and appointments to promote social interaction and inclusion.
Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
