Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Solid Waste Officer the employee performs litter control activities on County roads and right-of-ways (ROW). The employee supervises inmates assigned to litter pickup duties. Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following list was developed through a job analysis; however, it is not exhaustive and other duties may be required and assigned. Conducts a regular routine pattern of litter and trash pickup along County roads and ROW using inmate laborers.
- Supervises inmates during litter pickup operations on County roads.
- Operates County vehicle and trailer to transport workers and litter/trash to and from work locations.
- Develops and schedules pickup routes to provide adequate service coverage of the entire County.
- Monitors the pickup activities for hazardous materials (i.e. drugs, alcohol, medical materials, etc.).
- Initiates appropriate actions to safeguard workers and ensure hazardous waste is properly handled and disposed of in an approved manner
- Performs administrative functions to document daily activities.
- Orders litter control supplies.
- Signs inmate workers out of the County detention facility.
- Monitors and maintains control of inmates assigned to supervision.
- Documents infractions during the work cycle and reports back to the Sheriff’s office.
- Returns inmate workers to the detention facility at the end of the work cycle.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possess a current and valid driver’s license.
- Ability to travel locally.
- Ability to work nonstandard hours.
Physical Demands
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 50 lbs., crouching or crawling in restricted areas, and defending oneself or others from physical attack.
Work Environment
The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g. working at great heights under extreme weather conditions, subject to physical attack, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
Salary : $1,219 - $2,126
