Job Summary
A locally operated, process-driven pool leak detection service in the Austin metro area is seeking an independent contractor (1099) to perform professional pool leak diagnostics on an as-needed basis.
This role is diagnostic, not sales-based. We prioritize accuracy, documentation, and clear communication over speed or volume. Leak detection is an investigative process, and results may be confirmed, probable, or inconclusive depending on conditions at the time of service.
Compensation is paid per completed job (1099 independent contractor), not hourly. No guaranteed hours.
Responsibilities
- Perform Phase 1 pool leak detection diagnostics, including:
- Hydrophone listening
- Dye / ink testing
- Visual inspection of pool and equipment
- Document all work with photos, readings, and written summaries
- Classify findings as Confirmed Leak, Probable Leak, or Inconclusive
- Communicate findings clearly and professionally to customers
- Follow established diagnostic procedures and safety standards
- Maintain professionalism on customer properties
Experience & Requirements
- Prior experience with pools, plumbing, or technical diagnostics preferred
- Comfortable working independently and managing fieldwork
- Reliable vehicle and ability to travel to job sites
- Ability to accept or decline jobs as they become available
- General liability insurance (or ability to obtain)
- Comfortable working as an independent contractor (1099)
- No exclusivity required — contractor may perform services for others
Compensation & Structure (Important)
- Paid per completed job, not hourly
- Base per-job compensation applies regardless of outcome (confirmed or inconclusive)
- Performance bonuses may be available for accurate, well-documented findings
- No guaranteed schedule or minimum hours
Equipment
Contractors are responsible for their own vehicle and general tools.
Specialized diagnostic equipment may be made available for use on assigned jobs during an initial onboarding period.
