Position Summary
Austin Hardware & Supply is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead and optimize our procurement function. This role is responsible for overseeing a team of buyers, sourcing agents, and expeditors, while ensuring efficient purchasing operations, strong supplier performance, and cost-effective sourcing strategies.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong experience in procurement, supplier management, team development, and process improvement. This position plays a key role in supporting company growth by ensuring the right materials, products, and services are sourced effectively, competitively, and on time.
What You’ll Do
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of buyers, sourcing agents, and expeditors to drive strong performance and accountability.
- Train and onboard new team members while providing ongoing mentoring and professional development.
- Oversee daily team operations, including workload distribution, supplier assignments, scheduling, time-off approvals, and timecards.
Purchasing & Procurement Operations
- Direct purchasing activities related to multi-facility warehousing, inventory goods raw materials, components, and services to support business and customer requirements.
- Review purchase requisitions and determine the most effective purchasing methods, order quantities, and sourcing strategies.
- Prepare, review, and approve purchase orders and bid requests in accordance with company policies and operational needs.
- Ensure timely, accurate procurement execution and support issue resolution related to order fulfillment and invoicing.
Supplier Management & Strategic Sourcing
- Build and maintain strong supplier partnerships to support quality, service, pricing, and delivery expectations.
- Lead new supplier onboarding and maintain approved supplier records and documentation.
- Negotiate and communicate with suppliers regarding pricing, lead times, product availability, and service performance.
- Partner with quality, inspection, operations, and internal stakeholders to resolve supplier-related quality or delivery concerns.
Reporting, Metrics & Continuous Improvement
- Analyze key purchasing and supplier performance metrics to identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiency gains, and service improvements.
- Recommend and implement process improvements that strengthen procurement operations and support business goals.
- Track and communicate the impact of improvement initiatives across the department.
- Represent Purchasing in internal meetings, vendor reviews, and cross-functional projects.
- Support senior leadership with strategic initiatives and special projects as needed.
Compliance & Process Management
- Maintain purchasing procedures and training materials in compliance with ISO and internal quality standards.
- Ensure adherence to company procurement policies, ethical sourcing practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Travel to branch locations as needed to support replenishment, inventory, and purchasing process training.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Strong background in supplier management, negotiation, purchasing strategy, and process improvement.
- Ability to balance strategic priorities with day-to-day operational execution in a fast-paced environment.
- 5 years of progressive purchasing or supply chain experience in a leadership capacity.
- 5 years of experience managing, coaching, and developing procurement or buying teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or a related field preferred.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and procurement platforms.
