SUPERVISES: None
Authorities / Responsibilities
- Fulfill responsibilities as stated in the DOL Apprenticeship Program and become a skilled Journey person within 2 years and a First Class Trades person within 4 years of training.
- Work progressively towards completing 4 years of training; including 8000 hrs on the job learning & a minimum of 576 hrs class room instruction
- Maintain a minimum 65% passing rate
- Commit to learning all aspects of Fitout trades:
Exterior Fitout- install external doors & hatches
SFP- install insulation & smoke barriers
HVAC- install HVAC duct & equipment
- Practice safe working habits when using power tools and machinery
- Miscellaneous tasks as directed by supervisor or instructor
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must pass Work Keys Test within the first 6 months of employment
- Ability to read and understand drawings and blue prints
- Knowledge of basic mathematical skills
- Working knowledge of power tools and machinery
- Physical Requirements:
- Standing: 25% Sitting: 15% Walking about: 60%
- Lift and Carry: 50lbs. for 10% of the day
- Hazards: Climbing ladders, accessing confined spaces
- Working Conditions: General shipbuilding environment, loud, dusty, hot/cold

- Candidates must meet the following employment eligibility guidelines to be considered for employment with Austal USA:
- 18 years of age or older at time of application
- Able to provide proof of US Person Status
- No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
- No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
- Willing to submit to a drug screen
- Willing to submit to a background check
