Maybe even muttered, "Someone should really get in there and fix this thing." Good news! We're looking for that exact person to join our team as a Traffic Signals Technician (I, II, or III). Think of it: you're not just fixing lights. You're the behind-the-scenes maestro, the one making sure thousands of commutes run a little smoother, preventing those epic traffic jams we all dread. This role puts you front and center, hands-on with all sorts of specialized equipment, from diagnostic tools that talk to traffic boxes to aerial lifts that get you up close with the signals themselves. We're looking for someone who loves a good puzzle and enjoys tackling outdoor challenges, whether it's rain, shine, or even a classic Colorado snow flurry. You'll be maintaining our city's entire traffic control system, making minor yet crucial repairs, and even helping with new installations. The Hiring range for this position is: Traffic Signals Tech:$25.76 - $32.20/Hourly Traffic Signals Tech II: $27.57 - $34.46/Hourly Traffic Signals Tech III: $29.50 - $36.87/Hourly Candidates must reside in Colorado at the time of hire. This job announcement is for collecting candidate applications for current and future Traffic Signals Technician I-III positions. The City of Aurora is pleased to offer: Up to $1,000 annual bonus for maintaining your CDL (if eligibility criteria is met). $250.00 Boot allowance annually (steel toe or other safety toe boots are required). Career advancement opportunities (step progression plan, promotions) PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Traffic Signals Technician: Operates or uses a variety of tools and equipment related to traffic control maintenance function. Conducts preventative maintenance inspections and makes minor repairs of traffic control equipment. Coordinates and schedules routine maintenance activities. Assists in performing skilled maintenance and construction tasks including the installation and testing of traffic signal control equipment. Operates diagnostic equipment. Maintains various records such as equipment, time, supplies, and parts inventory. Assists in training other employees in routine maintenance tasks. Assists other maintenance groups (such as signs and markings and streets) as needed Traffic Signals Tech II: Operates or uses a variety of tools and equipment related to traffic control maintenance function. Conducts preventative maintenance inspections and makes minor repairs of traffic control equipment. Coordinates and schedules routine maintenance activities. Assists in performing skilled maintenance and construction tasks including the installation and testing of traffic signal control equipment. Operates diagnostic equipment. Maintains various records such as equipment, time, supplies, and parts inventory. Assists in training other employees in routine maintenance tasks. May act as lead worker. Traffic Signals Tech III: Operates or uses a variety of tools and equipment related to traffic control maintenance function. Conducts preventative maintenance inspections and makes repairs of traffic control equipment. Coordinates and schedules routine maintenance activities. Assists in performing skilled maintenance and construction tasks including the installation and testing of traffic signal control equipment. Operates diagnostic equipment. Maintains various records such as equipment, time, supplies, and parts inventory. Assists in training other employees in routine maintenance tasks. May act as lead worker. Performs additional duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Traffic Signals Technician: Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: Knowledge of practices and techniques of traffic maintenance functions desired. Applicable safety practices and procedures. Skills: Use of tools, specialized equipment, methods, and safety practices common to assigned maintenance function. Proficiency in operating aerial lift equipment. Abilities: Ability to inspect and make minor repairs to traffic signal equipment. Perform manual labor for extended periods of time, outside and in all weather conditions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees. Understand oral and written instructions. Operate or receive training on various types of maintenance and construction equipment. Work overtime and call back duty. Train and instruct other employees. Keep and maintain accurate records. Organize and schedule tools, materials, and equipment to accomplish tasks. Supportive team player with a positive attitude and ability to adapt to change. Strong commitment to safety. Licenses and Certifications Required: Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Certification preferred. Must obtain RTD On-Track Safety Training Certification within six (6) months of employment in the position. Must obtain ATSSA safety certificate within six (6) months of employment in the position. WORKING CONDITIONS: Essential Personnel: When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel. Physical Demands: Heavy physical work requiring the ability to lift 100 pounds with or without assistance. Frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Considerable walking and standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing (including work from an aerial lift to 40 feet high) Frequent pushing, pulling, and bending. Hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of mowing and other motorized equipment. Some speech communication to give information. Clear vision to read operating manuals and instruction. Hearing/listening for receiving and interpreting information and warning signals. Work Environment: Works primarily outdoors in all weather conditions. Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, street traffic and materials used in traffic maintenance such as paint and chemicals. Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and holidays in emergency situations including snow removal. Equipment Used: Operate heavy equipment common to traffic signal maintenance. This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
