Production Operator Job Description
A machine operator is responsible for setting up, operating, maintaining, and monitoring machinery to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality production.
Key Responsibilities
Production Operators perform a variety of tasks to maintain smooth production processes, including:
- Machine Setup and Operation: Prepare machinery for production runs, aligning parts, confirming settings, and feeding raw materials into machines. Adjust machine settings such as speed or temperature to meet production specifications.
- Monitoring and Quality Control: Continuously monitor machine performance, inspect parts for accuracy, and make minor adjustments to maintain dimensional and quality standards. Inspect every part for defects.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with maintenance technicians for repairs.
- 6S and Lean Initiatives: Complete all cleaning activities, leaving areas cleaner and more organized for the next team. Support all 6S, lean, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Documentation: Record production data, maintenance logs, and quality reports to support process improvement and regulatory compliance.
- Safety Compliance: Follow strict safety protocols, maintain a clean work environment, and ensure adherence to OSHA or company safety standards.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with supervisors, co-workers, and other departments to ensure production goals are met.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Technical Skills: Ability to operate and maintain mechanical or computer-controlled machinery, including automated systems or PLCs
- Attention to Detail: Inspect products and machine outputs with precision to minimize defects
- Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve machine-related issues efficiently
- Mathematical Skills: Compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret production documents and specifications
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift 50 lbs. as required
- Communication: Effectively report issues, collaborate with team members, and follow instructions
Work Environment
Production Operators typically work in manufacturing plants. The role involves shift work, overtime, and exposure to noise or heavy machinery. Operators must maintain situational awareness and adhere to safety regulations at all times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- On-the-job training or vocational certification in machinery operation is preferred
- Experience with industrial machinery and/or standards is preferred
Reporting Structure
Production Operators report to the Team Lead or Production Supervisor and may work as part of a team to ensure production efficiency and quality. This role is essential for maintaining efficient production, minimizing waste, and ensuring product quality, making it a critical position in manufacturing operations
Schedules
- 1st Shift, 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday - Friday
- 2nd Shift, 3:00pm - 11:30pm, Monday – Friday
- 3rd Shift, 11:00pm - 7:30am, Monday - Friday
- Starting pay rate is commensurate with experience.
