Position Overview
Aurora is seeking a Graduate Engineer for our Houston location. In this role, you will work closely with a Project Manager and contribute to all phases of project development, from initial design through construction close-out. You will assist with design tasks, technical calculations, drafting, and project coordination while gaining hands-on experience with engineering standards and best practices in the civil engineering industry. This position offers the opportunity to grow your technical skillset and play an integral role in delivering high-quality engineering projects.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project teams under the direction of a Team Lead or Project Manager.
- Perform engineering calculations, analyses, and evaluations to support design decisions and recommend improvements.
- Prepare engineering drawings, layouts, and design details using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Assist in developing project specifications, technical memoranda, and engineering reports.
- Gather and organize project-related data, including researching utility records and supporting information.
- Review and analyze maps, drawings, survey data, and other technical documents.
- Assist with reviewing contractor submittals, RFIs, design documents, and project schedules.
- Perform field engineering duties, including site observations, verifying contractor compliance with design documents, and assisting with field modifications as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited University.
- 1-3 years of relevant engineering experience (internship or co-op)
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or the ability to obtain it within 12 months of hire.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to conduct occasional field work, including site visits and construction observations.
- Ability to travel up to 10% as required for project needs.
- Valid Driver's license.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD; experience with Civil 3D is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills with the ability to perform engineering calculations and interpret design data.
- Team-oriented with strong capability to work independently.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
