POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and coordinate the design, engineering, and delivery of marine vessel projects from concept through construction. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced technical environment, excels at client communication, and has a passion for the marine industry. This is envisioned as a San Diego, CA based position, however applicants in the SF bay area or Bellingham, WA may also be considered.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage multiple naval architecture projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, shipyards, and regulatory bodies
• Coordinate internal teams including naval architects, CAD designers, structural engineers, and systems engineers
• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and risk registers
• Oversee submissions to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and other regulatory agencies
• Facilitate project kick-off, progress, and close-out meetings
• Review and approve technical deliverables for quality and completeness
• Support business development activities including proposal preparation
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree (may consider equivalent experience) in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5 years of project management experience, preferably in marine design or shipbuilding
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects with budgets exceeding $500K
• Strong understanding of vessel design processes, classification rules, and regulatory requirements
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in core project management tools (MS Project, Excel, Word)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATONS & EXPERIENCE
• Experience with aluminum passenger vessel design and construction
• Experience with electric and hybrid vessels
• Familiarity with USCG regulations, Subchapters K & T
• Experience working with ABS, DNV, or other classification societies
• PMP certification or equivalent certification
• Proficient in Rhino 3D CAD and AutoCAD 2D
