Major Responsibilities
- Direct Nursing Care. Evaluates and manages the care of electrophysiology patients by collaborating with physicians/clinicians, device manufacturers and other multidisciplinary departments. Highly specialized in performing interrogations and necessary programming of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) , according to type of device, insurance restrictions and patient needs. Provides patient education on all aspects of electrophysiology, inclusive of CIEDs , treatments, and procedures. Consistently encourages questions from patients and their families and offers guidance that fosters compliance.
- Indirect Nursing Care. Performs an independent daily review of remote transmission of the devices implanted within patients. Correlates information with the clinical condition of patients to assist in the management of arrhythmias. Provides these reports to physicians. Triages and prioritizes messages, communicating information to providers/patients in a timely manner. Demonstrates triage skills pertinent to determining normal and abnormal conditions. Reviews information regarding the patient’s device, health history, medications and all information pertaining to the patient’s cardiac status. Serves as an advocate and liaison between patients, staff, physicians and external customers by sharing necessary information to ensure continuity of care.
- Documentation. Provides consistent and accurate documentation of patient information, care and concerns in the EMR according to the guidelines provided in the Documentation Policy and as otherwise instructed. Completes billing of all services provided in the device clinic.
- Leadership. Oversees the day-to-day provision of patient care including staffing, workflow, equipment and supplies. Assists supervisor in evaluating and adjusting care and services. Acts as an expert clinical and department resource. May provide work direction to other teammates. Works to promote and implement care management and quality initiatives. Assists in establishing quality standards for department. Monitors and evaluates care delivery provided and takes action to correct problems appropriately.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.\
- Assisting with clinical triage, creating prep for cases, managing in baskets running clinics alongside or with the providers are a few more of the clinical task of this role.
- Registered Nurse License in the State the teammate practices, CPR and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required upon hire or within 60 days of hire.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Typically requires 5 years of experience in nursing that includes experience in precepting and acting as a nursing resource
- Good computer and organizational skills. Good communication skills Ability to assess, plan and intervene and evaluate the physical, emotional and education needs of patients. Basic keyboarding and typing skills.
- Must be able to successfully complete clinic-based training for all associates. Ability to work with all levels of personnel. Ability to work under stressful situations.
- Proficient in interpretation of EKG/cardiac rhythms/ arrhythmias.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, staff and physicians.
- Demonstrates leadership skills including delegation, organization, prioritization and problem-solving skills and ability to effectively make critical, independent decisions
- Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
- Must be able to:
- lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
- lift up to 20 lbs over the head.
- carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to:
- push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
- perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
- Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids. Will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
- Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
