What are the responsibilities and job description for the Planning Engineer II position at Aureon?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assure the availability of network capacity for cost effective acquisition and delivery of Ethernet and Optical services.
- Specify and arrange for acquisition of hardware and software to support services transported on the optical network.
- Assemble network design and cost information provided to Aureon customers. Collaborate with other departments to ensure a timely and accurate quoting process.
- Assisting with fiber splice and identification records.
- Create and modify CAD files documenting fiber network architecture
- Work with multiple vendors to establish effective interoperability among their systems.
- Serve in a support role for sales on large-scale projects
- Work with affiliated companies, including ITCs, consultants and network partners to ensure compatibility in network design for new and existing services.
- Work closely with the Network Architect team to help design and implement network designs.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Four-year college degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent work experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of telecommunications technology and economic analysis including:
- Transmission networks capabilities and structure of copper and fiber optic based networks
- Packet based network design and implementation criteria.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate with customers, employees and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner
- Strong analytical aptitude is necessary to evaluate equipment engineering specifications and incorporate into network designs.
- Ability to apply financial analysis to determine costs and develop prices
- Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
- Excellent planning and organization skills. Must be able to efficiently utilize all available resources to provide effective solutions and explore all possibilities to facilitate the best decision.
- Able to work independently with little or no direct supervision and contribute to a team environment
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice
TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND SOFTWARE:
- Must be able to proficiently operate Windows PC with Office and Outlook. Experience with CAD ,Visio, PowerPoint, Excel VBA, cvFiber is a plus
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Primarily indoor work in office environment requiring long periods of sitting
- Regular customer site visits to assess fiber construction and equipment installation requirements
- Frequent utilization of manual dexterity and visualizing of a computer screen
- No unusual physical requirements
- Valid Iowa Driver’s License and good driving record
