What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis position at Aurenity?
About Aurenity
Aurenity launched in January 2022 as a new MGA for the E&S market. We were founded by underwriting entrepreneurs who share an interest in industry innovation and saw the chance to build a new kind of MGA. We attract industry-leading underwriting talent and give them cutting-edge pricing technology to optimize risk selection. Our values are Integrity, Innovation, responsibility, Inclusion and reward.
The Role
We're looking for a hands-on VP of FP&A to own financial reporting, business planning and audit management as we build out our finance infrastructure following recent investment. This is a highly visible role reporting to the COO, with regular exposure to the CEO, the Board and our outside investors. The ideal candidate pairs strong technical accounting and analytical rigor with the ability to thrive in a lean, fast-moving MGA. The role is hybrid with a preference for West Hartford, CT or the Northeast region.
What You'll Do
Financial Reporting
• Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close and reporting process.
• Enhance and standardize management reporting for the CEO, COO, Board and investors.
• Build KPI and dashboard reporting on underwriting performance, loss ratios, commission income and carrier partner economics.
Business Planning & Forecasting
• Lead the annual budget and rolling forecasts with department and carrier-relationship leads.
• Build financial models for growth planning, new carrier partnerships and program expansion.
• Partner with underwriting and distribution leadership to turn business plans into projections and track performance against plan.
Audit & Controls
• Own the external audit relationship and manage the annual audit end to end.
• Strengthen internal controls and accounting policies for a scaling, investor-backed MGA.
• Manage statutory, regulatory and carrier-required financial reporting.
Balance Sheet & Cash Management
• Own balance sheet integrity, including premium and claims fiduciary accounts, carrier and broker receivables, and payables.
• Monitor cash flow and working capital, particularly fiduciary and premium trust accounting.
• Drive month-end close discipline and faster close timelines.
Cross-Functional & Investor Support
• Support Board meeting preparation and investor reporting alongside the CEO and COO.
• Professionalize accounting processes as we scale, and make sure clean data flows from Origami Risk and our other systems into financial reporting.
What You'll Bring
• 7 years of progressive finance or accounting experience across FP&A, controllership or audit leadership.
• Insurance experience at a carrier or MGA is required. E&S or specialty experience is strongly preferred.
• Proven experience managing an external audit relationship end to end, with a Big 4 or regional firm.
• A strong technical accounting foundation in GAAP. SAP/statutory exposure is a plus, and a CPA is preferred.
• A track record of building finance processes in a growth-stage or PE-backed company.
• Advanced Excel and modeling skills. QuickBooks and Power BI experience is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to turn financial detail into clear insight for non-finance colleagues.
Benefits
• Competitive base salary and annual bonus opportunity
• Company-subsidized medical, dental and vision coverage
• STD, LTD and life insurance
• Competitive 401(k)
• Generous PTO and company holidays
• Parental leave
• Flexible work arrangements
• Professional development
• Charitable volunteer opportunities
