Position Description: Assistant Teaching Professor of Spanish
The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Augustana University is looking to fill a full-time (nine-month), non-tenure track position of Assistant Teaching Professor of Spanish beginning in August of 2026. We seek an individual (M.A. required, Ph.D. preferred) in Spanish or a field pertinent to Hispanic Studies who can teach core Spanish-language courses at the introductory through advanced levels and who is able and willing to offer occasional introductory French courses in support of our French program. The ideal candidate will have experience and/or willingness to teach language courses for the professions (for example, Spanish for Health Care or Business), and/or courses in the areas of translation and interpretation, with the possibility of developing future programming in such areas. Candidates who are innovative collaborators with an interest in program development and teaching across disciplines at a small university grounded in the liberal arts will be of special interest. Responsibilities include:
- teach eight (4 in the fall, 1 during interim, and 3 in the spring) undergraduate courses per year,
- work collaboratively with colleagues to develop on- and off-campus programming in and beyond the department,
- mentor and advise students,
- provide service to the department, university, and profession,
- engage in professional development,
- assist the department in outreach and recruitment.
