What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finance Administrator position at Augustana Lutheran Church?
As the staff and congregation prepare to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Denver’s Augustana Lutheran Church in 2028 (www.augustanadenver.org), you have the rare opportunity to join a talented team of professionals to manage the business and financial resources of the church. In the midst of a $8.5 million capital campaign, which has already raised $6 million, you would be responsible for managing and investing those funds; creating and monitoring the multi-million-dollar, operating annual church budget; plus preparing monthly financial statements for the church and its many related ministries. You would also be involved in Human Resource support, risk management and contracts for the memorial garden, as well as the supervision of five other staff members. Key responsibilities of the position include:Budget Preparation and AdministrationPrepares, reviews, and administers budget materials in collaboration with the Finance Support Committee to present the draft budget to Congregation Council for approval.Prepares the annual budget for the Augustana Foundation.Assists the Augustana Early Learning Center Board Treasurer in preparing the annual budget for the AELC.Provide monthly analysis of variances between budget and actual results. Financial Reports (Monthly, Quarterly, Annually)Maintains accounts payable, accounts receivable, and journal entries for general church operations.Records cash receipts, deposits offerings and gifts received.Prepares and maintains financial statements and records, including account reconciliations.Manage payroll for the AELC and the Church. Staff Management and Other ResponsibilitiesSupervision of Publications Administrator, Facility Manager, Building & Property Manager, Building Systems Manager, and AELC Billing Clerk.Manages insurance coverages related to Augustana Lutheran Church and its ministries.Responsible for all record keeping regarding Personnel, administration of employee benefit programs, and other Human Resource issues.Administers Memorial Garden contracts and ordering of headstones and urns for use in the Garden. Desired Skills and QualificationsComputer literate, with proficient experience in MS Office applications, especially Excel.Previous supervisory experience with promotion progression preferred.Knowledgeable of GAAP accounting principles and experience with financial statement consolidations. Experience with establishing and maintaining systems of internal control, especially in small organizations.Excellent interpersonal communication skills.Professional presentation and project management skills.
