The Senior Director, Communications is primarily responsible for all external communications relating to the Club and Masters Tournament, the consistent messaging of all non-licensed media products, issuing press releases or other communication to the public, press and/or media as needed and is passionate about media trends and requirements. This position will represent Augusta National Golf Club and deal directly with the media, acting as a resource for information for the Masters Tournament and the other managed golf events such as the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, the Latin America Amateur Championship and Drive, Chip & Putt. This position must maintain the strict confidentiality of all Club business.

This position is a full-time, on-site role in Augusta, GA.

Essential Functions Of The Job

  • Coordinates and oversees Press Building operations and the media during Tournament week. This includes oversight and coordination with the Media Committee, Members, coordinating building setups, assisting in arranging and coordinating interviews and press conferences, serving as a liaison between media constituents and Tournament officials regarding information requests, and issuing and controlling press credentials and other media requirements.
  • Manages all non-licensed media and press relations for the Masters Tournament and Augusta National Golf Club to include the execution of appropriate media agreements, serving as point of contact as necessary for media calls, inquiries and requests, and preparation and issuing of all press releases and news bulletins.
  • Implements, maintains, enforces, and updates the Press credential and media policies.
  • Reviews all credential requests from the press and oversees credential fulfillment.
  • Manages and supports the official website, including the accuracy and consistency of content with the Masters standards.
  • Direct oversight of the Club and Tournament archive. Responsible for the management of the Club Historian.
  • Directs the development and editing of all Club and Tournament publications and printed materials such as the Journal, Annual, Spectator Guide, a Media Guide, Player Guide, etc.
  • Maintains, updates, and uses database systems to provide access to scoring and other Tournament statistical information which includes historical photos, videos, files, documents, recordkeeping, and scoring. Serves as a reference to the media and others for historical archival information.
  • Reads, maintains, and distributes a clipping file as required on all Augusta National and Masters related articles.
  • Advises the Chairman, Press Committee Chairman, Press Committee, and staff on all matters relating to the press.
  • Provides Chairman and Senior Management with public relations support including speech development, question and answer preparation, and strategic advisement.
  • Supervises and has oversight of full-time staff as well as tournament employees and volunteers.
  • Responsible for any on-site displays and exhibits to include club artifacts as well as any external requests from other organizations.
  • Supports the Chief Commercial and Content Officer with Masters Tournament Foundation initiatives.
  • Works with Club Operations on the research, development and installation of historical displays and wall décor.
  • Accountable for the effective operation and fulfillment of KPIs for the Department.
  • Ensures results for processes, programs, and projects are measured and allocates resources across the department as needed.
  • Accountable for hiring, performance management, and development of direct reports and team.
  • Responsible for maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and achieving results through effective relationship management.
  • Accountable for forecast and budget management for the department, as well as effective allocation of department payroll.
  • Responsible for overall department strategy and allocating resources to accomplish initiatives.

Physical Demands

  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties
  • Occasionally required to walk and work with hands and arms, lift up to 25 pounds and/or drive a golf cart.
  • Constantly required to sit, sometimes for several hours at a time, and use their hands and fingers to operate a computer.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

  • Searches for additional opportunities for promoting the Masters Tournament to include working with international initiatives to grow the game.
  • Assist other departments on special projects such as training videos, internal documents, and the like to ensure consistent messaging of content.
  • Performs all other duties deemed by management to be an integral part of the job.

Qualifications

Skills/Knowledge/Attributes:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to effectively communicate with the press, public, and employees.
  • Working knowledge of the game of golf.
  • Computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheets, database programs and the Internet.

Relative Experience/Education

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years’ experience in journalism, public relations, or communications.
  • Minimum 3-5 years supervisory experience.
  • College degree required preferably in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or similar field.

Required License(s)

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and/or successfully completes the Club’s internal motor vehicle training program

Projected Work Schedule

Normal work hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
