What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Maintenance Tech position at Augusta Health?
Performs basic general preventive and corrective maintenance on buildings including basic interior and exterior repairs at the main hospital building as well as at satellite facilities. Includes basic maintenance duties such as basic repairs, painting, basic troubleshooting, assisting with repairs of various mechanical systems, assisting with grounds duties and snow removal. Participates in the hospital preventive maintenance (PM) program.

Education And Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of apprenticeship training courses or vocational training such as the Valley Career & Technical Center or Military Technical School preferred.
- General maintenance or trade experience preferred
- Must be able to read a tape measure
- Ability to perform basic maintenance and repair tasks such as troubleshooting & repairs on a wide variety of facility components.
- Basic computer keyboard skills are necessary for sending and receiving e-mails and entering work status updates for assigned work orders.
- Must be able to climb ladders.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a formal team environment.
- Functions effectively as a contributing member of the Plant Operations Department work team.
- Maintains responsibility for individual tasks and assignments but is not accountable for overseeing or directing the work of the team.
- Must demonstrate good troubleshooting skills.
- Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs various building components and systems at the main hospital and satellite locations.
- Completes general maintenance work orders and performs tasks including, but not limited to:
- Performing door repairs and adjustments
- Performing basic painting, patching, and wall repairs
- Conducting minor carpentry work (e.g., hanging pictures, marker boards, soap/towel dispensers; assembling furniture; installing cove base)
- Moving office furniture to support staff relocations
- Repairing wallboard and performing touch-up painting
- Inspecting and repairing handrails
- Assisting with roof repairs
- Supporting general grounds duties, including snow removal
- Performing basic plumbing repairs (e.g., sink/toilet leaks, unclogging toilets)
- Replacing burned-out light bulbs
- Servicing and adjusting rooftop exhaust fans (e.g., replacing fan belts and bearings)
- Performing routine cleaning and minor maintenance of hospital fleet vehicles (e.g., light bulb and windshield wiper replacement)
- Performing basic maintenance on sterilizers and water purification equipment
- Resetting circuit breakers
- Repairing wheeled devices (e.g., wheelchairs, dollies, carts)
- Ordering necessary parts for maintenance and repair tasks
- Assists skilled trades (Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical) as needed in troubleshooting and repair tasks
- Assists in other department areas (e.g., boiler room cleaning, swimming pool mechanical room support)
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Cleans work and shop areas regularly. Tools, equipment, chemicals, and supplies are not to be left unattended in patient care areas or other areas where they may pose a risk to patients, visitors, or employees.
- Performs work in a timely and orderly manner with minimal complaints or call backs. Patient concerns and the overall hospital experience must be a top priority.
- Provides after-hours call-in support on a rotating schedule and responds promptly to urgent repair needs
- Operates hospital vehicles to travel between facilities and supply locations as necessary
- Assists with snow removal during winter months
- Performs other related duties as assigned
