Director of Social Services

Join a group of dedicated individuals in service to the citizens of the Central Shenandoah Valley. Shenandoah Valley Social Services is accepting applications for the position of Director of Social Services. The agency serves three localities—the cities of Waynesboro and Staunton and Augusta County—from offices in Verona and Waynesboro.

Under the general supervision of a local board of social services in each of the three localities, Shenandoah Valley Social Services directs, monitors, reviews and evaluates a wide array of programs and services conducted on behalf of the citizens of the region. Programs and services are provided in a manner that acknowledges that the citizen is the prime customer of social services. The development and maintenance of effective citizen relations is a major area of responsibility, as is encouragement of citizen participation in the governmental process.

The position requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in social work or a related field, and extensive progressively responsible experience in professional social work including considerable administrative experience. Experience in the Virginia Department of Social Services system is preferred.

Applicants must possess knowledge and abilities in administrative and personnel management; budget development and management; and technology. Effective oral and written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and leadership skills are essential.

The salary range is $90,435 - $140,565 with an excellent benefits package. All communications will be treated confidentially.
