Job Title: Instructional Coach (Secondary)

2026-2027 Salary Scales
To provide job-embedded support, training, and modeling to secondary classroom teachers to enhance content knowledge and instructional strategies resulting in improved student learning. Provides support to principals and teachers by analyzing student work and data and assists in planning professional development opportunities.
Qualifications for the position include:
- A bachelor’s degree in education, in a K-12 core curriculum. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years of teaching experience with a strong understanding of the ACPS Program of Studies and the Virginia Standards of Learning objectives is required.
- Documented history of professional development and teacher leader activities at the school and district levels.
- Documented history of work with curriculum development at the school and district level.
- Examples of implementation of instructional initiatives and Best Practice.
- Knowledge and experience using a variety of assessment tools and analyzing student data.
- Strong planning, organizational, and collaborative skills; ability to manage multiple projects.
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledgeable of purposeful technology use in the classroom.
Primary Performance Responsibilities:
- Effectively uses a coaching model to assist in the continuous improvement of instruction.
- Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed, including modeling lessons when appropriate.
- Support teachers in the implementation of initiatives and programs.
- Assist teachers with interpreting student achievement data, determine related instructional needs, and designing instructional experiences based on assessment data.
- Assist teachers in creating materials that are aligned with state and local objectives.
- Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.
- Maintain relationships which are supportive of both teachers and administrators, with student learning as the focus.
- Encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers.
- Collaborate with the principal and instructional supervisor on school-driven and division-wide professional development.
- Assist with development of division curriculum, instruction, and assessments.
- Attend workshops/conferences to learn about new innovative instructional strategies.
Employment is based on a 210-day teacher contract. The actual salary is commensurate with the individual's experience as placed on the Augusta County Public School's salary structure. The individual reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and works directly with the Director for Secondary Instruction.
