N6 Salary Scale, 260 days/8 hours

Primary Function: To perform mechanical maintenance on school buses, cars and other vehicles assigned to the County for repairs and maintenance.

Qualifications:

1. To possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent
2. To be in possession of a valid Virginia driver’s license
3. To possess the ability to operate all vehicle types used within the Bus Garage and the Augusta County School division
4. To possess a valid CDL Class B license with P,S and Air Brake endorsement within 6 months of being hired.
5. To qualify for annual certification as an official inspection mechanic by the Department of Virginia State Police
6. Must maintain all licenses and certifications as needed to fulfill job qualifications
7. Must be able to perform 80% of the work without assistance
8. To work within a drug/alcohol free work environment. To consent and pass random drug/alcohol test as required by School Board Policy.

Job Tasks:

1. To demonstrate the ability to do skilled mechanical work on diesel and gasoline operated vehicles
2. To demonstrate the ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees and to perform duties in a team like environment
3. To have the physical capabilities to perform manual tasks as related to the overall job functions in the Bus Garage
4. To perform assigned duties in the diagnosis of automotive equipment
5. To perform maintenance and repair tasks following the manufacturer’s manual for repairs.
6. To maintain a neat and safe work area
7. To be on call as assigned by the Shop Foreman and to respond to emergency calls
8. To perform all other job related duties as assigned by the Shop Foreman or the Director of Transportation

An employee’s job performance will be evaluated in accordance with Augusta School Board policy and regulations.
