Supports the Waste Management Sustainability Services onsite hospital program. Primary responsibilities include handling, collecting, packaging, transporting, and installing containers for medical waste, sharps, non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste, and hazardous pharmaceutical waste. The role also involves manual labor, assisting when additional personnel are needed, and performing other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure proper waste segregation, container labeling, and compliance with regulatory shipment timelines.
- Maintain accurate logs, proper housekeeping standards, and adherence to safety/quality procedures.
- Collect and transport waste throughout the facility, including labor-intensive activities.
- Identify best practices to help customers reduce waste volume, improve efficiency, optimize equipment use, and lower costs.
- Provide support or guidance to less experienced technicians when required.
- Consistently wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in safety processes, including following procedures, attending training, and reporting unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.
- Follow Environmental and Quality Management System (ISO 14001/9001) policies and controls.
- Maintain compliance with EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations.
- Demonstrate strong customer service and de-escalation skills.

Education & Experience
- Associate’s Degree (accredited); OR
- High School Diploma/GED (accredited) plus two (2) years of relevant work experience.
- 24-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and effectively as part of a team.
- Frequent use of motor coordination and finger dexterity (e.g., keyboarding, machine operation).
- Regular lifting of up to 30 lbs; occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Daily exposure to occupational risks (cuts, burns, chemicals) and environmental conditions (dirt, odors, noise, extreme weather).
- Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather.
- Physical demands may vary depending on site assignment.
