Position Overview
Augment Professional Services (APS) is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Designer to support a diverse portfolio of civil infrastructure and land development projects across the Upper Midwest. This role will contribute to projects serving local government agencies, utilities, and industrial clients, supporting planning, design development, and technical production activities within multidisciplinary project teams.
The Senior Civil Designer will participate in multiple phases of civil engineering project delivery including site evaluations, planning, analytical design, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, and technical documentation. The role will focus heavily on site development, stormwater systems, utility infrastructure, and roadway design while coordinating closely with engineers, project managers, and other design professionals.
This position offers a flexible work schedule and limited travel (approximately 5%, with reimbursed expenses). The role is primarily office-based with no driving required as part of job responsibilities.
While the primary need is for Senior/Staff-level experience, the team may also consider Assistant Civil Designers with strong technical capabilities and relevant experience.
Key responsibilities include:

Perform civil design and drafting for infrastructure and land development projects including site design, roadways, storm drainage systems, stormwater management facilities, water distribution systems, sanitary sewer systems, sediment and erosion control, traffic control plans, and facility-related civil design.

Develop engineering drawings and technical deliverables using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

Execute design tasks using prescribed methods and standards including drawing production, component sizing, layout development, and technical detailing.

Incorporate design changes and markups into project drawings during active project development.

Analyze technical data including reports, maps, drawings, geotechnical information, and topographic data to support project planning and design.

Apply relevant design codes, standards, and specifications to ensure compliance with engineering and regulatory requirements.

Review drawings and design documentation for quality assurance, accuracy, and consistency within project scope, schedule, and budget parameters.

Perform earthwork and grading calculations, including excavation, dredging, and site grading volume estimates.

Assist in integrating project schedules, budgets, and design criteria into civil layouts and drawing packages.

Maintain organized project documentation including drawing revisions, plot files, and technical files within project management systems.

Coordinate design tasks and drawing production activities with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary project teams.

Support additional project-related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Technical Skills

Bachelor’s Degree (complete) in Drafting Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field with 7 years of relevant experience, OR

Associate Degree (complete) in Drafting Technology or related field with 8 years of relevant experience, OR

9 years of progressive civil design and detailing experience in lieu of a degree.

Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D for civil design and drawing production.

Working knowledge of additional engineering design tools such as MicroStation and Microsoft Excel.

Strong understanding of civil engineering design principles, calculations, and technical design systems.

Experience producing site development, grading, stormwater, and utility design drawings.

Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards, codes, and design specifications.

Experience performing earthwork and grading calculations.

Strong collaboration skills in multidisciplinary engineering project environments.
Preferred Experience / Qualifications

Experience supporting municipal infrastructure or local government projects.

Experience working with utility or industrial infrastructure projects.

Familiarity with stormwater management systems and erosion control design.

Ability to coordinate with engineers, designers, and project managers to resolve technical design challenges.
