Systems Engineer, IDE Performance

As a Systems Engineer at Augment Code, you'll play a crucial role in bridging the gap between complex AI research and real-world SAAS applications. You'll be tasked with designing, implementing, and maintaining our infrastructure, ensuring high availability and optimal performance for AI-driven services catered to a global user base.

The IDE Performance role focuses on performance and stability in our IDE integrations. You’ll tackle complex issues—such as memory leaks, CPU bottlenecks, and UI freezes—while building the foundational components that power plugins and client SDKs across multiple IDEs. Your work will directly improve responsiveness, reliability, and developer productivity for customers working at scale.

• Investigate and resolve performance bottlenecks, memory issues, and stability problems in IDE plugins (with emphasis on IntelliJ in the short-term).
• Profile and optimize JVM-based systems for efficiency, responsiveness, and reliability.
• Design and evolve shared abstractions and SDK components that enable consistent multi-IDE support.
• Establish robust testing, monitoring, and profiling practices to detect regressions early.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and client engineers to ensure seamless integration with backend services.
• Drive architectural improvements that make IDE integrations more scalable and maintainable.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is an advantage.
• 5 years of experience as a Systems Engineer, with exposure to AI-driven environments or SaaS platforms being a significant plus.
• Expertise in software development in relevant languages (any of Java, Python, Go, Rust, C , etc).
• Proven problem-solving skills, especially in troubleshooting complex issues in distributed systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

• Proficiency in cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
• Previous experience working with AI/ML, distributed systems, HPC, and systems/infrastructure is a plus.

Pay Transparency Notice: The actual base salary within the stated range will be based on a combination of factors such as an individual's skills, experience level, educational background, and other relevant job-related considerations. 

Annual Base Salary Range: $225,000 USD - $300,000 USD
