About the Role:
As a Staff Auditor, your work supports the audit team, strengthens Assurance and Advisory Services' objectives, helps County departments improve processes, and ultimately benefits the broader community. Through active collaboration, problem-solving, and continuous communication, you will play a key role in identifying risks, supporting business objectives, and delivering value to our clients.
The Staff Auditor, day-to-day contributions will include:
- Assist with conducting project risk assessments, scoping, and developing audit work plans under appropriate supervision.
- Execute audit engagements in accordance with Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards, Local Government Code, and applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Prepare clear, organized audit workpapers documenting testing procedures, results, and conclusions.
- Identify audit findings and contribute recommendations focused on root cause remediation and operational improvement.
- Support senior auditors by contributing to the drafting of concise, factual audit reports and updating audit programs.
- Perform audit test work, review transactions and supporting documents, participate in client interviews, research regulations, and assist with special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or related technical subject matter.
- Zero to two years of relevant work experience.
- Basic knowledge of auditing, accounting business processes or related technical matter.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.

Work Environment
- Monday - Friday | 40 hrs. per week | Exempt
- May be required to work more than forty hours during the workweek or on weekends when special projects need to be completed, or deadlines need to be met.
- Position's physical requirements: Ability to push/pull up to 20 lbs. and lift/carry up to 20 lbs. | 80% sitting, 10% standing, and 10% walking.
- Ability to travel to various locations within Harris County.
