Audiology Assistant

Qualifications

High School Diploma

On site training provided and/or training courses for obtaining a license (2 weeks of training will be in our Annapolis office)

Must have a good understanding of blue tooth and be comfortable with technology.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Critical thinking and trouble shooting skills

Time management skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Equipment/Infection Control:

• Turn on/shut down equipment at the beginning/end of the day
• Perform periodic audiometer/equipment bio checks
• Perform infection control of tools, equipment, and exam rooms
• Recharging of otoscopes as needed
• Manage and track annual calibration of audiology equipment for all AAI offices
• Perform weekly Noah database backup to flash drive

Patients and Hearing Aids:

• Hearing Aid Fitting and Check Visits:

Check-in newly arrived hearing aid(s), charge devices and attach receivers, domes, and retention
cords
• Check for and run firmware updates
• Activate/program first fit and save in the software for initial hearing aid fitting visit
• Discuss preferences with the audiologists for further initial set ups in devices. If routine
preferences are established, the AA will set up the hearing aids in this manner.
• Ensure next day’s scheduled patients’ devices have arrived and are ready for delivery
• Prior to patient arrival, connect devices to Noah then mute them
• Bring patient to hearing aid fitting room, explain the general process, and perform an otoscopic
inspection (alert the audiologist if concerns)
• Following the audiologist’s programming, describe the routine care and cleaning of the device
to the patient, verify the patient has mastered insertion, removal, and battery charging /
changing (if applicable), in addition to connect phone etc. to BT and app as needed
• HAF appt time with Aud 30 minutes and with AA 30 minutes.
• Contact the patient by phone the day after fitting to inquire if there are any questions, report to
audiologist, and note in Blueprint
• Help with new device follow-up visits, reconnect device to Noah and pull up use data, take
statement of problem, resolve difficulties that only require reinstruction, and summarize the
problem statement for the audiologist when they enter the room.

• Hearing Aid Check Visits:

On patient arrival, greet patient and take statement of any device problems/concerns
• Bring the devices back to clean and replace disposable parts
• Connect the hearing aids to Noah and mute the devices
• Bring patient to hearing aid fitting room, explain the general process, and perform an otoscopic
inspection (alert the audiologist if concerns)
• If otoscopy is clear, set patient up with REM equipment.
• HAC time with Aud 20 minutes and with AA 10 minutes.•

Hearing Aid Repairs/Walk-ins

Be the initial contact for walk-in hearing aid problem/repair patients
• Perform otoscopic inspection and alert the audiologist if concerns
• Check-in newly arrived repaired hearing aids
• Confirm most recent HA Noah file is loaded in devices
• Complete walk-in/repair paperwork and notes in Blueprint
• Repair/clean devices and troubleshoot/resolve cases
• Fitting/changing of receivers, domes, filters, and retention cords if applicable
• Checking the physical fit of a newly received/re-cased devices
• Ensure that patients are scheduled for hearing aid delivery


Paperwork/Manufacturer Contact:
• Assist with electronic medical records, ensure that hearing-aid patient threshold data reside in the
Noah System
• Order prescribed hearing aids and supplies
• Maintain contact with hearing aid manufacturers
• Ensure that payments for AA service is received and logged

Other Duties:

Covering the front desk when/if the Patient Care Coordinator is out, check in and check out. Insurance verifications and Prior Authorizations. 

• Verify and check-in all packages shipped to the office
• Ensure next day’s scheduled patients' devices have arrived and are ready for delivery
• Sell in-office retail items and accessories
• Organize and maintain physical inventory of audiology supplies
• Prepare patients for auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing (e.g., electrode connecting/impedance
testing)
• Assist videonystagmography (VNG), such as eye makeup removal requests and checking on medications
taken and skipped pre-exam
• Assist with testing of pediatric patients
• Completion of recorded speech-in-noise testing, with and without amplification.
• Presence at health fairs and other community service and patient recruitment events
• Conducting group and individual aural rehabilitation programs using materials prepared with the
audiologist
• Cognivue - collect all patient paperwork and instruct/guide patient through the test, give the results to
the audiologist to interpret and review with the patient
• Make recalls to increase patient appointments
• Review patient Hearing Aid records to ensure warranties are accurate and notes on main page reflect
current service/treatment plans.
• Review schedules to ensure the office is efficient
• Includes alerting PCC or Audiologist of unusual upcoming cases and monitoring that
appointments have been scheduled/cancelled appropriately.
