Job Description: AV Systems Engineer

Position Overview

The AV Systems Engineer is the technical backbone of our project delivery, turning sold solutions into accurate, buildable designs and standing behind them from proposal through commissioning. You review proposals for technical accuracy, produce system designs and drawings in AutoCAD, prepare complete project documentation, and serve as the technical resource to sales, project management, and field installation across our service area in Maryland, Virginia, DC, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. You will report to the Director of Operations and secondarily to the Owner/CEO.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Sales Support: Review the technical accuracy of proposals before they reach the client, advise sales during proposal development, and serve as the technical resource on sales calls when needed.
  • System Design & Drawings: Produce system designs, rack layouts, site plans, cabling labels, and schematic diagrams in AutoCAD for the installation team to build from.
  • Project Documentation: Prepare complete documentation for each new job, build the installation folder to the standard checklist, keep as-built drawings and programming information current, and assemble owner's binders at completion.
  • Programming & Commissioning: Provide pre-install and on-site programming of DSP and similar equipment, and work alongside the Project Manager through commissioning, closeout, and client training to confirm full system compliance.
  • Field & Team Support: Troubleshoot technical issues by phone and on site and provide technical training and support to the installation team as needed.
  • Manufacturer Coordination: Interface with manufacturer technical staff to resolve service and operational issues, and help generate, track, and close out service calls until the work is complete.
  • Implementation Meetings: Organize and lead implementation meetings, aligning client expectations and project details for a clean, on-time completion.

Core Values & Behaviors

We hire and operate by five core behaviors, and we expect this role to live them every day.

  • Relationship Centric: Always search for the win-win-win across clients, teammates, and manufacturer partners.
  • Poised Sense of Urgency: Move quickly and decisively without losing composure or accuracy.
  • Take Ownership: See it, own it, solve it, do it. Carry every issue to resolution rather than handing it off.
  • Exercise Critical Thinking: Work from facts, not emotion, and let the details drive the decision.
  • Begin with the End in Mind: Define what success looks like before you start, and build toward it.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience in commercial AV.
  • Proven experience designing and installing commercial AV systems.
  • AVIXA CTS required; CTS-D preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for site plans, rack layouts, and schematic diagrams.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability with AV systems and minor acoustic issues in the field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, well-organized, and able to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Able to mentor junior engineers/CAD-operators and reviewing peers’ design documentation
  • Current and valid driver's license, with the ability to perform site work that includes standing, climbing, and moderate lifting.
