Duties and Responsibilities:
The Athletics Department is accepting applications for a Part-Time Basketball Game Clock/Scoreboard Operator. The qualified candidate selected for this position will assist in the following capacities:
- Will serve as Game Clock/Scoreboard operator for all preseason, regular season and postseason men’s and women’s basketball home contests.
- Comply with all NCAA DII and GSC basketball rules, regulations and policies, including.
- Starting and stopping the clock: The timer starts and stops the clock when instructed by the officials, who signal with their hands. The clock starts when an official signals that an inbounds player touches the ball, such as during a jump ball, throw-in, or unsuccessful free throw. The clock stops for charged time-outs, injuries, substitutions, disqualifications, and free throws.
- Using a digital stopwatch: The timer has a digital stopwatch available to time timeouts, intermissions, injuries, and blood or lens situations. The game clock is not used to track time during these situations.
- Notifying officials: The timer notifies the official of any timing mistakes or malfunctions.
- Communicating with the scorebook keeper: The timer communicates with the scorebook keeper about the score.
- Scoreboard Update: The timer will be responsible for updating the score, personal fouls and team fouls for each team during the contest.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of applicable University, NCAA and Gulf South Conference rules, practices and procedures
- Positive attitude and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work with individuals from various backgrounds
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Available to work nights and weekends
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as basketball Game Clock/Scoreboard Operator at NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, AHSAA or AISA institution
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Two (2) years’ experience as basketball Game Clock/Scoreboard Operator at NCAA institution
