Duties and Responsibilities:
The College of Education is accepting applications for an Academic Advisor for Teacher Preparation Programs. The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:
- Provide academic counseling/advisement for students in matters related to goals, choice of curriculum, course load, study habits, and course scheduling/selecting; assess student academic needs.
- Assists in registration coordination procedures and schedule adjustments including verification.
- Develop and/or complete advising documents such as plans of study, curriculum guides, and graduation forms. Assist with admissions procedures for graduate studies.
- Verify student and course information which may include: grades, academic certification of athletes/veterans, and/or forced drops.
- Evaluate and/or update student records in order to post grades, do graduation checks, monitor students’ progress, and advise students on an appropriate course of study.
- Assist with recruitment of prospective students and retention of current students. This may require occasional after hours or weekend work such as working at Saturday Admissions events or an after-hours graduate school open house.
- Maintain program spreadsheets of student progress and information in Microsoft Excel. Purge folders as needed. Communicate effectively with students and faculty.
- Support application and/or admissions processes for incoming students as applicable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of assigned program or function
- Knowledge of functions, operations, and/or maintenance or equipment being used
- Knowledge of acceptable advising and/or recruiting techniques and practices
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations
- Skill in making written and oral presentations
- Ability to communicate effectively with students face-to-face and via email.
- Ability to abide by FERPA regulations when communicating
- Ability to advise students
- Ability to recruit students
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
