SUPERVISES: All coaches of interscholastic athletics in grades 9 - 12. JOB GOAL: To provide each enrolled student of secondary school age an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport, and the principles of fair play.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organizes and administers the overall program of extracurricular athletics, both intramural and interscholastic for grades 9 - 12.
- Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches in grades 9 - 12.
- Supports middle level interscholastic activities and leadership.
- Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program, including maintaining relationships with booster clubs.
- Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
- Hires officials, athletic trainer, and police officers, as required, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
- Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
- Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
- Participates in the establishment of physical and academic requirements of eligibility and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport, and verifies each athlete's eligibility.
- Prepares and administers the athletic program budget.
- Requisitions, in cooperation with appropriate staff members, supplies, uniforms, and equipment for athletic programs.
- Supervises the cleaning, storage, and care of all athletic equipment.
- Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events connected with the athletic program, and assumes responsibility for proper handling and accounting of monies involved.
- Arranges all details of visiting teams' needs as appropriate.
- Makes all necessary arrangements for the use of non-school playing fields and facilities.
- Arranges the practice schedules for the coaches on the fields and in the gymnasiums in cooperation with other staff members who utilize the same facilities.
- Administers the insurance program covering school athletes, and assumes responsibility for all processing of reports and claims.
- Keeps records of the results of all junior and senior high school athletic contests, and maintains a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award, including athletic scholarships.
- Plans and supervises preseason and postseason meetings and recognitions of school athletes.
- Oversees and provides for training for coaches.
- Any other duties outlined by the building administrator.
