In 2019, Ward Home joined the Auberle family and has three programs in our Young Adult Services Department.
Program Description
The MIYA Program provides mobile services and support to young adults transitioning from the social service system to independent community living. It empowers individuals to make decisions about their lives while working closely with families and natural supports to achieve recovery goals and maximize long-term stability.
The program uses a clinical and skill development approach to help young adults build adaptive skills needed for independent living. MIYA promotes self-determination and supports participants in choosing where they live, learn, work, and socialize, fostering stability and long-term recovery.
Position Title and Overview
Peer Support Specialist
• Build trusting relationships with young adults by sharing lived experiences and offering emotional support to foster hope and resilience.
• Empower young people to advocate for themselves and make informed decisions about their lives, promoting self-determination, and independence.
• Assist individuals in developing life skills, coping strategies, and problem-solving abilities to support independent living and recovery.
• Connect individuals with community resources, social services, and support networks to enhance their well-being and stability.
• Work closely with the clinical team, families, and natural supports to create cohesive support plans tailored to each individual’s goals.
Location and Travel Requirements:
This position is primarily located in Great Pittsburgh area. All positions are also expected to come to training, meetings, and other events at Main Campus in McKeesport, as scheduled.
The travel required for this position is frequent.
Qualifications:Position Requirements:
- Act 33/34 and FBI Clearances required.
- High school diploma/GED.
- Valid PA driver’s license, vehicle, registration, and proof of insurance.
- Must have or obtain Peer Specialist Certification within 6 months of hire.
- Must be available for 24/7 on-call duty for 1 week every 6-8 weeks.
- Requires working varied hours, including evenings, some weekends and holidays.
