Overview
We are seeking a professional and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service while managing administrative tasks efficiently. This role requires a strong understanding of medical office operations, EMR systems, and medical terminology to ensure smooth clinic workflows and accurate documentation. Prior clinic or medical office experience is preferred, along with proficiency in various healthcare software platforms such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, and Eaglesoft. Bilingual abilities are a plus to better serve diverse patient populations. The Medical Receptionist will play a vital role in maintaining HIPAA compliance and supporting overall health information management.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and professionally at the front desk, managing multi-line phone systems with excellent phone etiquette
- Schedule patient appointments using EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification procedures
- Collect patient information and facilitate intake processes efficiently
- Manage medical records, including filing, documentation review, and maintaining accurate patient files in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Assist with billing and collections processes related to medical billing and CPT coding
- Enter data accurately using typing skills (including 10 key typing) and Microsoft Office applications
- Review care plans and ensure proper documentation of patient visits in EHR systems like eClinicalWorks or Meditech
- Support clinical staff with administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and managing office supplies
- Maintain knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10/ICD coding standards for accurate documentation review
- Support front desk operations by handling patient check-in/check-out procedures efficiently
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations including HIPAA guidelines
Experience
- Previous experience in a medical office or clinic setting is highly preferred
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, or Eaglesoft is essential
- Knowledge of medical billing, coding (ICD and CPT), insurance verification, and health information management is required
- Strong understanding of medical terminology across various specialties including dental terminology if applicable
- Proven ability to handle multi-line phone systems and perform clerical tasks with accuracy and professionalism
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively in bilingual environments if applicable
- Experience with office management software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) is necessary
- Prior hospital or dental clinic experience is advantageous but not mandatory
