Staff Coverage Specialist (Building Substitute)
Wamsutta Middle School
Full-time - 183 School Days
The Staff Coverage Specialist is responsible for delivering instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher (or paraprofessional). This position requires flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to supporting student success across preschool, elementary, middle, and high school grade levels.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for rotating into various instructional and support roles across a range of grade levels on a daily basis.
- Implement lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher to ensure ongoing instruction.
- Manage classroom behavior in a manner that promotes a productive learning environment.
- Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which you are assigned.
- Maintain a safe and respectful classroom atmosphere.
- Take attendance and document classroom activities as directed.
- Communicate with school staff regarding any issues or concerns encountered during the day.
- Supervise students in classroom and transitional settings (e.g., hallways, lunchrooms).
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Follow all school and district policies and procedures.
- Expected to be punctual to support the effective supervision and transition of students at the beginning and end of the school day.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- College degree preferred.
- Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions and quickly adapt to changing situations.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the school day.
- Capable of managing a classroom of students in various age groups.
Compensation/Benefits:
- This full-time position is for 183 school days
- Certified applicants pay: $36,800/year
- Non-Certified applicants pay: $32,200/year
