This is a brief synopsis of overall job duties.
The Restorative Care Assistant is responsible for providing nursing restorative care to ensure residents attain or maintain the highest possible physical, mental and emotional well-being possible for each resident without declines unless the decline is documented as unless the decline is documented as unavoidable. Attica Long Term Care is committed to providing care that recognized each resident’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs beyond the traditional nursing procedures and protocols. The Restorative care assistant provides care to resident that is designed to strengthen muscles, assist with mobility, promote independence, and prevent functional declines and others in accordance with Attica Long Term Care policies and procedures, our current standards of care and practice and applicable state/federal regulations.

Qualifications:JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Qualifications:
- Must possess current Certified Nurse Assistant status in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Prefer they have completed additional instruction and training in restorative care procedures.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Have the ability to maintain a record of the health care activities.
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- CPR
- Be able to make independent decisions
- Background clearance mandatory (TB, Drug Screening, Physical…)
Education- Certificates, Licenses or Registrations:
- Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Prefer Restorative aide certificate program.
- Completion of Certified Nurse Aide training
Experience:
- Need to have at least one year experience as a CNA
- Must have worked with the elderly for at least 6 months
- Must enjoy working with people
- Must be able to remain calm in stressful situation

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.)
- Must possess and demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of safe, restorative nursing care practices
- Must be able to verbalize and demonstrate appropriate knowledge of good body mechanics
- Ability to evaluate and document the effectiveness of the restorative care received by the resident
- Understand and agrees with Attica Long Term Care’s philosophy and goal to maintain, improve and/or enhance each resident’s quality of care and quality of life
- Performs Active Range of Motion (AROM) and Passive Range of Motion (PROM) in a safe manner to residents as assigned by the Restorative Nurse/Physical Therapist and the resident’s overall plan of care.
- Ambulates residents as assigned by the Restorative Nurse/Physical Therapist and the resident’s overall plan of care while utilizing appropriate equipment or devices in a safe manner
- Assist residents to apply and remove splints or prostheses as assigned by the Restorative Nurse/Physical Therapist and the resident’s overall plan of care.
- Encourages the residents to perform tasks for him/herself as appropriate and as assigned by the Restorative Nurse/Physical Therapist and the resident’s overall plan of care.
- Provides good body alignment, positioning device and contracture padding as appropriate and as assigned by the Restorative Nurse/ Physical Therapist and the overall plan of care.
- Reports to the Restorative Nurse/Physical Therapist any adverse conditions experienced by the residents during the provision of restorative nursing care including, but not limited to, pain.
- Monitors and assists with performance of Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) to promote resident involvement to the highest extent possible without resident decline unless the decline is documented as unavoidable.
- Evaluates and document the resident’s progress as indicated by Attic Long Term care policies and procedures.
- Practices good body mechanics while delivering restorative nursing care to prevent injuries to self or to others.
- Observes all safety precautions as required in Attica Long Term Care policies and procedures.
- Cooperates with licensed rehabilitative therapists when providing restorative nursing care to resident when appropriate.

- Perform other duties and assignments as assigned by supervisor.

Physical and Sensory Requirements
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
- Must be able to speak, read and write the English language in an understandable manner to ensure proper documentation is accurately completed.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position and calmly communicate with the residents during the stressful times.
- Must possess touching, sight, taste and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met, such as the ability to distinguish smells, taste, temps and hear and respond to paging systems.
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel and support agencies.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination.
- Must be able to relate to, communicate and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of waist level and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
- Standing, walking, bending and lifting will occur throughout entire shift.
- Must be able to reach, grasp and have fine hand coordination.
- Must be able to utilize gait belts, sit to stand, and hoyer lifts to transfer residents.
- Ability to understand and apply training
Contribute to facility efforts to maintain and/or improve quality of care through participation in the following:
- Participate in learning circles
- Attend mandatory in-services.

Other tasks not listed here may be assigned by the Restorative Nurse, Physical Therapist, and/or Restorative Supervisor. Periodic revision may be necessary to reflect changes in expectations placed on long term care by the KDADs. This job description will be reviewed and/or revised by the DON annually and as needed.
