About the Role:
As a Hospice Volunteer, you will provide compassionate companionship and supportive presence to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Volunteers help enhance the comfort and quality of life for hospice patients by offering emotional support, meaningful conversation, and assistance with simple non-medical activities. By working alongside the hospice care team, volunteers help ensure that patients feel valued, respected, and supported throughout their care journey. This role is ideal for individuals who are empathetic, patient, and committed to bringing comfort and dignity to those receiving end-of-life care.
We are currently seeking dedicated volunteers to serve patients in the Bay Area and San Joaquin/Stanislaus County.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Willingness to complete hospice volunteer orientation and required training.
Ability to commit to a consistent volunteer schedule.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and respect patient privacy.
Must pass background screening as required by the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous volunteer or work experience in healthcare, caregiving, or community service.
Familiarity with hospice philosophy and end-of-life care principles.
CPR or First Aid certification.
Comfort supporting individuals and families experiencing grief or loss.
Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.
Responsibilities:
Provide companionship to hospice patients through visits, conversation, reading, or quiet presence.
Engage patients in simple activities that promote comfort and emotional well-being.
Offer respite support to caregivers and family members when appropriate.
Communicate respectfully with hospice staff and report any concerns or observations.
Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to hospice policies and procedures.
