Summary
The Driver Orientation Training Manager leads and manages driver orientation, training, and safety compliance at assigned location(s). This role oversees the Orientation/Simulator team, providing coaching, performance management, and guidance to ensure onboarding, classroom instruction, and hands-on training meet ATS standards, DOT regulations, and company safety requirements. Training programs are designed and delivered using operational data, incident trends, and targeted safety objectives to promote driver readiness, retention, and compliance.
The manager facilitates and conducts hands-on driver training, supports accident prevention and corrective actions, and ensures all educational materials and technology are current and effective.
Education and Experience
- Associate or bachelor's degree in related field, plus 4-6 years of experience in driver training/facilitation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid CDL required.
- Strong knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance regulations, or the ability to learn quickly.
- Excellent knowledge of heavy haul tractor/trailer requirements and working knowledge of the wind transportation industry.
- Proven leadership experience managing onsite personnel, with strong team management and coaching abilities.
- Ability to train, coach, and influence drivers and staff to achieve operational and safety goals.
- MUST BE experienced in Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Staff Leadership & Management
- Supervise Orientation staff at assigned location(s), including scheduling, coaching, performance evaluation, and disciplinary action when necessary.
- Ensure presentations and orientation materials are reviewed and updated at least annually. Must be able to speak in front of groups of people.
Training & Orientation Oversight
- Lead and supervise the Driver Orientation/Simulator personnel in assigned location(s) to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and ATS requirements.
- Design, update, and facilitate classroom and hands-on driver training on equipment operation, securement, loading, safety, and FMCSA regulations.
Safety & Collaboration
- Facilitate on-the-road testing and evaluations as required.
- Collaborate with Safety, Operations, Claims, and other departments to support driver readiness and safety outcomes.
- Assist with accident investigations, provide feedback, and deliver corrective training.
Continuous Improvement & Compliance
- Modify training content based on incident trends, regulatory changes, and leadership direction.
- Ensure new driver onboarding reinforces safe driving behaviors and ATS customer service standards.
Additional Duties
- Carry out managerial and leadership responsibilities in accordance with ATS' policies and applicable laws.
- Perform key All-Manager Responsibilities; Deliver High Business results, Build the Right Team, Manage for Optimal Performance and Develop Talent for Growth.
- Complete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed and infrequent travel may be required.
Compensation & Benefits
- The anticipated base salary range for this position is $70,000 to $90,000. Base salary offered is determined by relevant experience, education, certifications, and geographic as compared to others doing substantially similar work. In addition to the base salary, employees may be eligible for performance-based incentives, which can vary depending on individual and/or company performance.
